Default TK-2312

Hello, on the 2312 i'm curious how channel tone selection works. Does anyone know how many tones it will hold and/or if you can name them?

This is listed on the brochure, in the footnotes:

Two-Tone Decode (3 sets x 2 pairs each); Single / Two-Tone
Encode (10 tones), Operator Selectable Tone (40 QT.DQT
code pairs).

Is that what you you are looking for?

I guess I'm a little confused, what do you call the tones you would use to open different repeaters? If there's 10 repeater sites I have 10 different tone options for the frequency depending on where I'm located. So what would those tones or that setup be called?

Kenwood calls this "Operator Selectable Tone". When OST is assigned to a programmable key, pressing that key will enable/disable OST, and holding the key will enter OST list mode where you can select the tone/code you want. The TK-2312 holds 40 standard or non-standard tone/code pairs, and yes, you can name them.

By the way, these tones/codes are generically known as "CTCSS" and "DCS", but Kenwood calls them QT and DQT. They are also known as PL/DPL (Motorola), and CG/DCG (Bendix King).

You could also program 10 different channels with what you need. OST is handy, though.
