• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hoping that someone out there has seen this issue and can help. One of my 70cm repeaters is a Ver. 1 TKR-850.

Here is the problem: After a unspecified period of time, could be several hours, 20 minutes into a conversation the repeater will not transmit repeat audio. There are no error codes on the display. Rx is fine, QT decode is fine, just no transmit. I do not have a service mic on this machine yet so no idea if local ptt is working.

If you power down the repeater, it will come back up and work just fine. I am not using a external controller and would prefer to use the internal Kenwood controller if possible.

Have checked for cold solder joints and all connectors are secure.

Ideas, theory or what ever would be helpful. When it's working it's a great repeater.

How long have you had the repeater in service? How long have you had the problem? What is the power output you are running?

The 850 runs 18 watts output power to a TPL external amp for 90 watts output. Been in service since 2/4/15. Was sitting in my shop for a year or so until I found the site to put it up on.

Time out timer is set for 3 minutes.

20 minutes into a conversation the repeater will not transmit repeat audio.

I think you're saying transmit comes up but you are losing repeat audio. TOT will not cause this. I remember one TKR that was having a problem with repeat audio although the local mic always worked fine. I did not attempt to find the problem, shipped it to FTH and they repaired it. Has been working since.

Or, as the others are hinting, are you losing transmit (PTT) altogether?

Went to the site this morning and looked at the settings for TOT, Penalty timer and rekey. Set the Penality timer and rekey values to off.

If you look at the help file for those settings, at the very bottom it says that those two timers are reset only on channel change or power off. (KPG-91D)

Anyhow, loaded the new setting and worked a friend for almost an hour non stop. We deliberately timed the repeater out 4 or 5 times. Each time it came back up with no problems whatever.

Since 1pm today several users have been on and working it pretty hard, more so than usual and it is working just great now.

My thanks to cmdrwill and k1n32008 for helping narrow this down.
