Default Online Scanner cuts out constantly

I'm sorry if I am posting this in the wrong thread. I tried to find a tech support one.

I have been listening to the online scanner since before the change over. I didn't have any problems before this became Radio Reference. Now I have to constantly restart the player. It doesn't matter which browser I use, doesn't matter if I play it from the page it's self, or from the web player, windows media player....etc...it ALWAYS cuts out. I am constantly restarting the player. I've tried everything to see which is better and nothing seems to work. Sometimes it will go fine for a while, other times I am refreshing it every few minutes.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Thanks,
Sus

I listen to the Livingston county in IL scanner...but it doesn't matter what feed I'm listing to...it does it on any feed. It's the connection that quits. The counter just stops or disappears on the player. I have to sometimes refresh several times or just restart my browser to get the feed again. It's a constant issue and with all three computers I have. I've tried every browser, player...you name it. I will be listening and it just stops. I will look and either the counter is stuck, or the counter is gone.

How long does a feed play before it stops?

What computer are your using?

Exactly what players?

I must say I have consistently been having the same problems. It doesn't matter what computer I use (have tried 5). Or what connection I use (I have run cellular connection, cable w/ router, cable w/o router, municipal network). The feeds seem to be timing out anywhere between 5-8 hours. I would love to figure out what the problem is.

I have tried:
webplayer
windows media
vlc player
winamp

I believe our feeds are set to time out at about 8hrs.
Just restart the feed.

Like I stated and someone else stated...
It doesn't matter which computer I use...I have 3. 2 are vista, 1 is xp
It doesn't matter which browser I use (firefox, IE...etc).
It doesn't matter which player I use (straight from the home page, the web player, the windows media player..etc.)

Sometimes it cuts out or locks up at just in mere seconds into the feed, sometimes it will be several min. It's NEVER gone a full 8 hours. Before it all changed over to radio reference I could turn it on in the morning and just let my computer sit on my kitchen table and listen without one problem all day long! Now I am constantly restarting it. I know I'm not the only one. I have several family members and friends who also listen who I have refereed the site to, and they have said the same thing. Some of them don't even bother trying anymore which is why I decided to write.

Okay - Ran for an hour without a single glitch..

I send 3 of my live feeds to RR.
if you are using Winamp, just set the player to "Repeat". this will cause Winamp to reconnect if it is ever dropped.... That might be all you need to do.

Now - it is also possible that the source of the feed you are listening to might have dropped as well. Try listening to the Nassau County Police, Fire, or Suffolk County Fire Feeds in NY. I source those on my own Icecast server and RR has permission to relay them onto their server.

I will try the winamp idea. I was just listening, turned it on and with in 20 seconds I lost the feed. When this happens, I also have to completely close the browser I am using (I use both firefox and IE and it doesn't matter which it is) and restart the whole process over just to get the feed back.

I just don't understand why it is doing this. We never had problems before and we don't have problems with anything else we do online. My husband watches movies, I play games and we don't loose our connection or feed or anything with those. So I know it's not related to our connection. Sometimes I only have the scanner going on my firefox and it will completely crash my firefox. It's just strange.

I have a similar problem
When I'm at work I have to reconnect Media Player every hour or two or so because the feed stops.
now at home I have had VLC listening to the same feed and it's up time has been over 40 hours so far without having to reconnect

I seem to have an issue with cut outs as well. I feed to IBN and it does not make my remote listening computer reconnect all the time.... and it is the same feed, just to a different server.

If I connect directly to my feed computer I can hold the connection indefinitely. Through RadioReference servers it makes me reconnect the listening computer constantly. Happens with BBScanner in my blackberry also... so that removed the computers and internet connections from the issue and makes the Radioreference server the only constant.

If I listen to some other feeds I don't get the constant reconnects...and that is ALSO on Radioreference. Baffeling.

Tried different feed programs like Oddcast and K1PGV and I have tried different listening programs like Winamp and Windows Media Player. But using the BBScanner on my blackberry convinced me it was not my listening systems.

Perhaps I have something not connecting correctly in my feed to Radioreference. Anyone know of parameters you can change for your feed that may help?

Jp

I am finding my scannercast is dropping my feed for maybe 15 to 30 sec then its back to normal which would mean my listeners would be dumped. But the 8 hour mark maybe ringing a bell...

Folks,

There are so many variables involved that could cause a feed to drop. It could be related to the person providing the feed. There could be a latency issue between your computer and our servers. It could be a problem with your computer.

On our end, we very very rarely make changes to our server infrastructure that would disconnect clients.... when I say rarely, I mean once every two weeks at a maximum.

In addition, we do have the feeds set to timeout after 8 hours... so if you are listening to a feed for greater than 8 hours you will need to reconnect or use some of the other methods listed below to auto reconnect.
