Default Telephone on LTR?

Is it possible to have Telephone on an LTR system? or something that resembles such? For the last 2 days I've been hearing what looks like telephone calls on a particular private LTR system, on 2 specific TG's only. It sounds like you are dialing, then someone answers and they talk, the background noise stays on, unlike normal PTT operation when you hear some background noise only when the button is pressed. I hear it perfectly, just as if I were a 3rd party on some telephone conversation, and I never heard such a thing.

Yes, what you heard was an LTR system with telephone interconnect.

Oh ok. Is the telephone in the actual radio? or do you use a regular telephone but connected to the LTR instead of to the local telephone network?

The trunknig controller at the tower (controlling the repeater) is connected to a telephone line. The radio has an Interconnect talkgroup assigned to it. That talkgroup corresponds to an overdial or direct inward dial code. Each radio can have it's own phone number or overdial code. They can also place phone calls using the DTMF keypad.

Hope this helps you.

The LTR base station is connected to the telephone network.
The end user has a mobile radio that has either a DTMF microphone or a handset like a vehicle mounted cell phone.

Zetron makes Interconnect software, Most repeater systems (Conventional & Trunked) use it.
