Default Tgid Questions

I am trying to track a Business Trunk System here in Allegany County Maryland. It is WPOX749. I started out tracking the frequencies on only tower site. There are 5 sites total. I am getting weird TGID's with Home numbers above 20 which I understand from reading in here are mistakes. Problem being it reads them consistantly on different days and different times. Could this be some Passport stuff of theirs coming in? I then decided that they may be using frequencies from different tower sites on the local system so I set up all 5 tower site frequencies and have been scanning them. I am using the Butel software to log all the hits on the System. A new question is it is logging a multitude of TGID's from all the systems. I am still getting home numbers above 20. I started to listen to the traffic that comes over the frequencies and I haven't heard any talking but the scan is stopping and it is logging a TGID. I haven't heard beeps or anything. It stops for a second, I hear static, logs a TGID, then continues to scan. Will Unidens log bogus TGIDs when squelch is broken? I also understand that if a frequency comes up and the home is 0-04-102 that that frequency is to be put in LCN 04. The other frequencies are coming up with 0-31-099 and 0-21-015 are those just bogus IDs? Maybe it would just be best to stop tracking this because I must be missing something.

My experience bears the same results that you are getting with your system, the only valid talkgrups are the ones with voice in my experience, I log everything I get then sift thru the data to see which users fit with what service ie, towing, courier etc.
I can confirm matter of factly that if you have a twenty freq system you will not see valid id's higher than 20-. those ones you see like I have are part of the system when the system cycles through its paces? I see this on a new VHF system we have by a major nat gas supplier, the id's are showing many with higher than 20 home numbers, I believe it has to do with loading ( a term coined by a owner of a system here)
Just right down the numbers with voice on them those will be your users, ,
With Uniden you can easily find the proper LCN number for LTR. place one freq, twenty times in memory positions 01-20 scan search this when a valid id with voice comes up push trunk and see which memory slot it fits into , this is the easiest way to find which order they are in . Good luck , takes time and you need patience.

I have entered each frequency 20 times like you said. But you said that when voice comes up you hit "trunk" and it will say which LCN it belongs in. What software are you using? I use Butel 246. I didn't see that option.

This would be true if you are absolutely certain that 0-04-102 is using its home channel. It may be using a GOTO channel - in which case, this theory is thrown out the window...!

Some Radio Shack scanners are better at determinine LTR systems. They will display the LCN when holding on an LTR system, whether it is a home or goto channel. This is something that Uniden scanners lack.

Not necessarily. If you find this happening with a Uniden scanner that is searching with C-Ch Only enabled, you may have found a valid GOTO channel.
