Help useing Kenwood TK-380
Hello Don't know if this will work. We are getting a New Motorola Trunking system at work. We have 3 Kenwood tK-380's. First question is will they work with the Motorola system and second can we scan both Trunking and conventional channels without changeing banks or something. Any help would be great. We have some Ham freq's we need to use that will not be in the trunking sytem. Or does anyone know how to add the ham repeater into the trunking system for limited uses. Thanks tim

Kenwoods won't work on a motorola system. There are a few kenwoods that work on LTR systems, which the 380 will do, but that's about it. Plus some older motos could be fitted with smartruck boards, but that's a little on th eold side.
Are you sure it's a motorola trunked system?

Hello I am not 100% sure, but all the other radios we use here are Motorola and the dealer installing the system is a Motorola Dealer. So i would think it's a Motorla system. If the 380's will work with it thats ok. Do you know if the 380's can san both LTR and conventional channels with changeing banks? Thanks Tim

I have no idea on scanning LTR and conventional CHs, best to make sure what type of trunking systems it is. If it is a motorola trunking system, then the kenwood won't work (as I've never known /\/\ to sell LTR systems)

I am currently working at a service that has a motorola LTR system and we have been issued HT1250LS, other members have also placed the kenwood TK-353 on the system and seems to be working fine. I don't see why the TK-380 would not work.

off topic but the tk380's are nice solid radios, on par with the ht's for durability, IMHO

Hello
The Motorola radios they are useing are HT1250LS & HT1550XLS. If we can keep the TK-380's that would be great. The people who use them like them better than the Motorolas.
Thanks

If the radios you have now are HT1250LS's and HT1550XLS's, the system is surely LTR, and if that's the case the TK-380's should work.

Which for terms of this type of discussion means the new system being installed is not a Motorola System, but rather a LTR System using primarily Motorola equipment.
So to avoid any further confusion, I am moving this thread to the LTR Trunking forum.

Sure! I have a few 373s. They both use the same software. http://www.morriswireless.com/kenwoo...ood_TK-380.htm

For this, 440, right? You might have to use the KPG60D software which is the over seas version to program down to 440 and maybe need to modify a circuit. I'm not sure and don't think it will work for 440. The U.S. version is KPG49D.
Actually, just looking on ebay it looks like there's a version 2. Look at the pic!

It does sound like it is an LTR system using Motorola equipment, so the Kenwood TK-380's will work. A lot of Motorola dealers use Motorola equipment connected to Trident LTR controllers.
I use a combination of Motorola (MTR2000) and Kenwood (TKR-840) repeaters on my LTR/PassPort system.

I actually meant that KPG 76D was the software I use.

Tim, looking through the KPG49 help tutorial regarding this, it appears that you can scan both conventional and trunked in the same scan list. However, the trunk system and the conventionals must be programmed in sepatate systems or banks. There appears to be a catch, if the scan stops on a trunked group, it will not "look back" into the conventional freqs. even if one of those is a P1 (priority 1) channel. hope this helps..
