SJ-180 is the Passport software to program the 180 series radios. The radio has Passport firmware. You either need the software from Scholer-Johnson, or re-flash the radio with the current 180 series firmware.
I was told the TK-7180/8180 30 watt (non-passport) mobiles use KPG-89 software. However, the high-powered versions 50 VHF/45 watt UHF "H' models use a different software. Can anyone confirm this ? If so, what software ?

All of the 7180/8180 including H models use the KPG-89 unless they have the Passport firmware. In that case you must use SJ-180.
The Kenwood software does not know the difference between the low and high power radios. You can read a TK-8180K and program it directly into a TK-8180HK or vice versa.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm really liking the Kenwood software ALOT better than the Motorola. So much easier to use. I took my TK-3180 codeplug from my portable, changed the model to the 8180, and threw it in my mobile. I'd like to see Motorola CPS do that for my HT1550 and CDM1550.
