Default Standard GX4800UT LTR Radio

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I am trying to program one and when I try to read the radio I get "Password read error" and when I try to write to them I get a "F Chart Read Error".

I am running the software in DOS (4800dual.exe Version 2.0 1998). It says to hold down the phone button while powering the radio on, but that puts it in the test mode and I still get the errors. I was able to successfully read one radio (I don't know what I did different...) and then one time while I turned the radio on while powering it up I got a blank screen and was able to write to the radio, but it gave me an error and now the radio just shows blocks on the screen.

What trick is there to programming these?

The GX4800 is actually a pretty good radio. Big problem we found is that there were so many versions that had a different software version for each. The software you have should work on the AC version. We have a had a few AA versions come through here that we bricked because we didn't check first and use the older software. You can find the version on the tag on the back of the radio.

They are kind of a nightmare sometimes to get set up, but once they are programmed up, they operate very well.

You might also want to make sure you are using an older computer, and in a pure DOS mode if possible (not a MS-DOS window)
