Default Coming Soon to Maine: Digital

There have been rumors, some reliable, about this for some time now. I got bored and went poking about the State's website and found some good info from the Office of Information Technology.

http://www.maine.gov/oit/radio/mscommnet/index.htm
Browse around for the info.

I knew there were a few municipalities that had already upgraded. It's going to be interesting to see how the statewide transistion goes when it happens. Even though most of the infrastructure is old (according to the info on the state's site), I was impressed that Maine doesn't have a big interoperability problem. Almost every agency is on VHF and has the ability to use statewide PD and state fire. Down here in CT, forget about on-scene interagency communication.

Not surprising, given the heavy influx of P25 in neighboring New Hampshire.

We maintain a growing list of P25 station activity for New England at my site, at this Wiki link: http://www.scancapecod.us/wiki/index...Listening_Area . I've had quite a few contributions for the state of Maine. Any others would be welcome.

I agree digital is already here. You can't monitor MEMA anymore because they have gone digital. Well, no more listening to any state agencies once the system is fully implemented.

You will still be able to listen. You will just have to buy a digital scanner. Now, if they run encryption on everything, you're screwed! Damn encryption.....

MEMA is using DES encryption so we're screwed! If MEMA has begun using DES encryption, it will only be a matter of time before all the state agencies use encryption.
