Codes

This web site has lists of every code. From police to ham bands. Look up on database search. Any county in the State of Maine every radio freq is there. Have fun tuning and listing. You can also listen live from this web site. Broadcast can be split on left speaker and right speaker from different departments.

Problem is, most of these codes are outdated, and many codes are not listed. Anyone have the most recent accurate codes, thank you

I got a chuckle out of a few of the codes:

11 Dispatching too rapidly
30 Illegal use of radio
89 Too much air time

I never worry about remembering 10-codes and I don't keep any list of codes. There are more versions of the 10-code nationwide than terms in it. I learn the 10-codes used in a given area by listening to them as they are used. The context of how they are used helps a lot. I remember them forever after learning them this way.

I live in NH, the land of 10-5 being used for an acknowledgement instead of 10-4. I recall being in the Baltimore MD area many years ago and hearing an officer saying he was en route to the station with three female 10-5s. Okayyyy..... I remember LOL'ing at that because I'm so accustomed to hearing 10-5 used in place of 10-4.

IMHO they should standardize it nationwide or just use plain language. I can see lots of unnecessary confusion, especially at state boarders.

Then again, we can't standardize the colors of emergency lighting so I suspect radio is no different. Travel to NY and all of a sudden your fire vehicle turns into a police vehicle.

Some of the 10 codes are changed around to suit each department's needs. They also have special codes that each department has they do not let folks know what they mean Such as Code 5 or code 7 like that. Maine Police are aware Scannerland is open and listening.
