Default CG Rescue 21 Questions

Hello,

Read what I could on it, but am still confused.

Re the to-be-implemented Coast Guard Rescue 21 system:

Are the frequencies different from the normal CG VHF channels?
If so, are they published yet ?

Or, will normal scanners not be able to pick them up ?

When will it be operational ?

Thanks,
Bob

Thumbs up

NO. You will not have to buy a new VHF radio, unless you want to have DSC capability. R21 will just give the CG the ability to pinpoint where a distress signal came from, kind of like enhanced 911, except it uses triangulation to give the operator a LAT/LONG position. Again, same VHF marine frequencies. Also, R21 will give us the capability to monitor DSC which the NDRS (old system) does not. Hope this helps. Stay safe on the water!
