Default Gales of November

I have still been hearing some lake freighters on Superior yet. Last nite they were talking about 34 knot winds and 12 to 14 foot waves on the leeward side of the Keweenaw point. Man that has got to be miserable duty this time of year. There used to be some ham radio guys on the boats and we could get some good chats going for quite a ways across the lake.

Are those on the VHF marine channels? Or HF?

www.boatnerd.com will get you all the freqs, HF and VHF, that are used on the lakes. It's alos fascinating to see the ship movements and such.

The freighters usually use the standard marine freqs for casual info. Usually call on 16 then go to 22a or somewhere handy.
