Default HF Frequency Assignment

How are HF SSB frequencies actually assigned to a Part 80 licensee? Is it up to the licensee to request frequencies utilized in a particular area? How may fequencies are usually assigned? I assume at least one from each frequency range is assigned to allow for changes in propagation. Never have seen anything on this anywhere. Just curious.

When you apply for your marine radio license you check the bands you intend to use; if I remember correctly there are several bands to check VHF, MF (2-3 MHz) and HF (4-24 HF). Your license covers operation on any part 80 channel in the bands specified, you are not limited to any specific frequency; note this applies to Maritime mobile stations only, land stations is another process.
