Default Monitoring on inland lakes

Does anyone monitor marine channels on inland lakes?

An opportunity has come up for my parents to purchase a boat. I am curious as to the regulations on monitoring and transmitting on the vhf marine bands.

I would like to put a marine vhf radio on the boat, if we purchase it.

Hello from Indianapolis...is that Ludlow Falls, Ohio? I was there just a couple of weeks ago!!!

I do monitor when I'm near a larger inland lake. A lot of activity on the Great Lakes, and...I've heard some when I've been over at Grand Lake St Marys. (Hope I got that name right). The Ohio river, also.

Is there a lake of any size near you?

Yes, Ludlow Falls, OH.

I think the biggest lake near me besides St. Marys, is southeast of Dayton at Cesar Creek State Park, at over 2800 acres.

We will be at Lake Loramie, in Ft. Loramie, this weekend.

I was wondering if it gets used much, as a Vol. Firefighter, I would like to be able to hear local distress calls when out on the lake.
