Default higher power on 154.10 BWI fire?

Usually 154.10 is a bit spotty by me in Glen Burnie, but lately it's being heard more reliably, but it sounds like the transmitter is not in good shape - hum and a little distortion, and it seems it was off for quite a while.

Maybe being upgraded, or transmitter problems? I just heard a dispatch, and although the audio was clear, there was a pronounced hum on the signal 73 Mike

I've never had luck with hearing BWI on the VHF freq. I guess it's not a big worry -- I think the distance from the transmitter to the fire station is 3/4 mile. I was always curious as to why they didn't switch to some wireline system like the Zetron Model 26 or something similar.
