GRE Files

Would anyone like to share their local, regional PSR 500/600 or Pro-106/197 files?
We could either make a thread here or do it off line via email.

I'm familiar with the Yahoo groups, but I'd rather not create yet another email account, just to share files.

The type of software would be irrelevant. Share what you have.

Thoughts?

Heck, may as well include all PC-programmable scanners so no one is left out.

I personally have two Pro-96's and a Pro-106.

Moderators: Would creating a "sticky" be out of line here?

I guess you mean in addition to the V-folders in the Radio Shack models, right? I've only used V-folder #1 on my new PRO-197 which covers the DC/Baltimore COGs so far but am just about to scrub away about half the systems in that folder that I can't hear and replace them with other local systems within range plus add some conventional LE freqs in that folder. Mike, If you want the original folder, stop on by and we can clone directly from my 197 to the GRE 500/600 or PRO-106/197 models. It contains 20 trunked systems from the area.

No, I don't necessarily need any files, just wanted to see if a thread to share files would be supported.

Some people add stuff to their files or set them up a different way, and it would be nice to see what other people do.

I'm happy to assist with programming and willing to share files for PRO-197, BC396T and BC796D... have just gotten the PRO-197 and don't have a lot to share yet there, but have changed all the alpha tags to read "MCPD Wheaton Disp" and things like that, instead of "A4 Dispatch", which is the tag used in the actual radios but is a bit cryptic, in my opinion...

Over the years, I've had nothing but good to say about the database at this site. However, that's the one thing that bugs the hell out of me - that they use the police/fire radio IDs instead of using the 16 digit field available in most newer radios to describe the function of each talkgroup. Those short IDs used in LE radios are fine for people that use the radios every day and only have to worry about a couple of IDs. Scanner listeners though listen to hundreds of talkgroups and need full descriptions. The end result is that although I can download the complete system from the database into my scanner with the push of a couple of buttons, I still have to go through and change the descriptors for every talkgroup.

And that's why I don't subscribe. I'm going to have to change things to my way anyways.

I have all my Uniden files on my site. I could put my Pro-106 Win500 files there too. I don't have too many right now. Most of it is redoing the preprogrammed local stuff plus all the air freqs. I'm actually hoping to sell it.

Well, thanks, guys, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I'm not familiar with the "real" radios, but I can't believe that they don't have a larger, more descriptive field for the tags...

And of course, we all know that sorting numerically by talk group number is not always "logical" either!

And, to get back on track, am happy to share my files and if anyone wants to b*tch about the way I have my tags, they're welcome!

At first I thought about changing the Alpha tags for the talkgroups in the database but not everyone will agree with everyone else about how they should read. So, yes, there should perhaps be a "Sticky" thread within each state that wants one where people could submit their talkgroup tags for each of the systems in thier own areas. Anyone that disagrees can submit their own set for approval by other readers. As it currently stands, the tags in the database are almost useless.

I think in most cases - if known and provided by someone - the display values are pretty accurate. The display on the Motorola radios is pretty small and in most cases the tag on those radios (mobile and portable) are pretty brief and many times abbreviated.

Here is my Maryland file for the Pro-106.
You have to change the extension from .txt to .p500.
