ATV [GATER]

Why do they call them GATERS for? I first thought only WHEATON RESCUSE 2 had there ATV called the gater & I just heard on the scanner that station 1 [?- closse to the MD/DC line] is calling there ATV 'gater' too.

The name comes from the John Deere "Gator" series of ATV's. They come in all shapes and sizes, two-axle and three-axle, dump bodies, etc.

At work, our ATV's are Kawasaki Mules. I sometimes wonder what the folks in scanner-land wonder when we refer to taking the Mules to get thier fluids topped-off.
