Good stuff. I know that the local police and sheriff's departments will have 1 or 2 encrypted Tac channels, so those TGs would show on UT or ProComms, but would not be received by scanners set to skip enc channels.

I'm wondering if Events 1 will continue to simulcast Cumberland Fire Department, or if that was a temporary patch used for testing. I've heard that CFD dispatching will move from its own system to the county's all processing / dispatch system. Also curious if CFD will move its operations to First.

Lastly, the county is (or will be) using DVRS in fire apparatus and police vehicles to enhance in-building / on scene comms. I'm trying to figure out what frequencies the vehicle repeaters will use between the portables and the vehicles - UHF or another set of 700 channels. If it's an in-band solution, I believe they need to be separated by 3 Mhz from those used by / or to access the simulcast sites. If UHF, curious as to what freqs will be used - maybe the UTACs or some from the LTR system? IDK.

Yes, Cumberland Fire will operate on the 10 group. CFD will move to the new alerting as far as I known. Right now they are patched on the event 1 channel with the current alert system.

Uhf will be used for the veh.repeaters. 10 repeater freqs. available for use.

kwrounds - you can submit your information to the db here

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=7214

Immediately above the system title on the page, and just a little left of center is a grey tab marked 'SUBMIT'. Click on that and follow the directions.

The UMES rebuild hasn't been mentioned in a while. If I remember I'll ask about it at the November meeting.

Talbot money aside, the biggest factor is likely to be getting the legacy users off the old system. As I understand it Caroline fire sirens are still operating over UMES, as well as other users. Changing those out will require Caroline County to spend money on upgrading their infrastructure. Hopefully that is already in their budget...

So far so good. Been several incidents both Fire and EMS that seem to work without a problem. Just a learning curve with the different channel names.

was going to post the same thing !!. I can hear quite a few TG ID's at work and on the way home. I recorded about 50 mb of audio in 6 hours. I also heard MSP ( C25) talk to the sheriff's dept. dispatcher. On another alert I heard Morgan Co Wv Co 32 talk to Allegany Co company 13 & Co 7 on the new system

Are they simulcasting any of the old LTR or other channels on TGs at all, or was it a total switchover?

Default Allegany

I have heard alerts on both systems today the P25 systems is delayed about 3 seconds or so. The signal was considerably strong on the P25. For the 1st time I can hear everything from my kitchen on a telescoping antenna ( I usually hook my scanner up to a discone antenna that's about 35 feet high.)

NEW RADIO SYSTEM PLACED INTO SERVICE MONDAY; SEAMLESS TRANSITION

CUMBERLAND- First responders in Allegany County made the transition to the Maryland First, 700MHz digital radio system at 7 a.m. Monday…allowing for seamless communication with the county’s joint communications center, hospitals, other jurisdictions and emergency units. The new digital system will improve life safety for the county’s first responders.

“First responders will have the ability to communicate with our Joint Communications Center, hospitals, other responding units and other jurisdictions like never before,” Department of Emergency Services Deputy Director Roger Bennett said. “Life safety for our first responders has increased because of the better and more dependable coverage.”

Emergency communication specialists working Monday at 7 a.m. announced the new system was operational and began dispatching calls and communicating with field units, Bennett said.

“The transition was what we have been preparing for over the last several months,” Bennett said. “Our team developed a training video for field providers, we provided hands on training. Our dedicated and talented communication specialists were well primed for Monday.”

Allegany County government has invested $8 million0 in this upgrade, according to Bennett.

Each portable and vehicle mounted radio is outfitted to communicate with the Allegany County Joint Communications Center, neighboring jurisdictions including Garrett and Washington counties in Maryland; Mineral, Hampshire, Morgan and Grant counties in West Virginia; Bedford and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania, according to Todd Bowman, the public information officer for the department of emergency services.

“The Motorola APX 7000 tri-band portables also have the capabilities to connect EMS units with hospital base stations, direct contact with Maryland State Police Aviation units and can be utilized a cross the state in the event of large scale disasters,” Bowman said.

The new system and radios provide a better voice quality, along with life safety features including responder identification, emergency button activation, remote updating and GPS tracking.

“The most important thing we want to emphasize is that we now have radio coverage in areas of the county that historically we have not been able to get coverage,” Bennett said.

County radio technicians have installed 275 mobile radios in law enforcement vehicles, fire department apparatus, ambulances and command vehicles. Over 700 portable radios have been deployed in the county, according to Bowman.

Bennett added that the radios are physically more durable, waterproof and shock-resistant, high temperature, flame resistant cords and include a noise-canceling microphone. The life expectancy for the user radios is 15 years.

“In the event a county EMS provider, firefighter or law enforcement officer is involved in a life threatening event requiring immediate assistance for example, they would become disoriented in a fire or smoke filled room, scene safety deteriorates or lost in a mountainous/wilderness terrain, they will have the ability to activate an emergency button,” Bowman said. “This activation will go directly to our communication center and appropriate resources can be dispatched or redirected from the scene to the location of the radio activation.”

Testing on the new radios began in late summer with law enforcement agencies throughout the county, before fire and EMS units went on-line Monday.

Is Dorchester County still planned to come on FiRST next month?

Any idea when Garrett County Fire/Law will come on FiRST?

I haven't heard any updates on Dorchester's progress recently, but I've no doubt something will become known prior to the transition. There are too many mutual aid companies that will need to have their radios reprogrammed in order to facilitate the transition, but that hasn't happened yet so I'd assume the switchover is not in the immediate future.

Default Allegany FIRST audio

Hi All,

Been noticing that the transmitted radio audio in Cumberland is sometimes sub par. Echoes of voices, I can hear 4 to 5 echoes, sometimes garbled audio and modulation levels are not constant. I heard a police agency last night call the new radios "another bunch of junky radios like we had before".

I was in Washington county all day today and the audio is near perfect on all services on FIRST! Maybe some additional tweaking is needed in Allegany co?

I hear the same distortion on both radios I own, so I took everything to Hagerstown today, great reception!

BTW it is not simulcast distortion on my end.

Enjoy
