Starting to note activity from MdTAP (several TGs) in the Burtonsville/Laurel areas. They must have put another tower into service in the past two weeks, as I haven't heard anything closer to here than Baltimore area prior to this. Signal is strong enough to occaisionally hit my PSR800 on the outside antenna at the office in Bethesda.

A week or two ago (actually on several days since 2/5) I heard some "I" units attempting to contact a dispatcher on TGID 7104 but they never get an answer. This was on the Anne Arundel site. In my previous tests, I was able to pick up the AA site just off I-95 headed west on the ICC but not very far.

Which TGID and site (or CC frequency) did you detect the activity on? Also - do you have a date and/or time you heard it?

Edit: just checked my radio and found a conversation on TGID 8564 (AA site) earlier today - one end reported he was in Woodlawn and the other was I-495 near College Park. As far as I know there are only towers/sites active for AA County and Baltimore. That would be some range for connecting to the system from the north side of the DC beltway.... unless maybe there is a tower/site active down that way now....

FYI, I did read something at some point that said MDTA services down that way would be IP interfaced from other systems into FiRST, like 7103 is interfaced from the MAA system (note the fact that the only RID on that TG is 2116571), so especially if it was an oddball RID on the south unit, it might be an IP interface with PG County or something.

EDIT: Actually, never mind. I heard that in my recordings just now, between 2110 and an SA at woodlawn. Guess that is actually genuine FiRST tower coverage. Still had some very odd RIDs show up. 129999x? Boy.

Some comms today confirmed there still isn't any coverage below Easton..... really curious if there is any kind of roll-out plan/schedule (duh - I'm sre there is - we just don't know what it is).

At some point in the past there was indication that some shore Counties were considering coming onto the system - Upper Shore (Queen Anne, Caroline, Talbot), Wicomico, etc.....

Anyone seen or heard any other news on plans other than to "roll south from Kent County to Ocean City"?

Was driving around Anne Arundel/Baltimore area and picked up a talkgroup "8120." Seemed like a police related talkgroup. Audio wasn't to great.

Been hearing some testing and probably training on 8120 for a while now. Looking at today's activity, it seems most of the units are "Unit XX" (except for "control") where the radio ID is 21650XX (where XX matches the Unit ID). Mentioned the "Mondawmin Field office" (heard this on other days as well), Eastpoint, Northwest Center, and the Hunt Valley office. In past days ranks (police? military?) were mentioned.

Believe it's police related, possibly some sort of special police. I've heard 'Radio maintenance', a Captain, and an Officer on the air.

The closest thing to Howard right now is probably BWI (parking garage) on the AA site - nothing west of Anne Arundel yet... probably not til 2014 or later.

By far the busiest site(s) are Baltimore and probably Kent and Anne Arundel.

All sites don't carry the same traffic.

Whiskey as Troy has answered your question - keep in mind that the only radio that can handle this system is the GRE PSR-800. Anything else will only hear noise.

However, if you're asking about Howard County freqs apart from FiRST, please start another thread. Hijacking a thread is a no-no here

Thanks for your future cooperation...Mike

Silly me - I just assumed he was asking about Maryland FiRST frequencies in Howard County since it was in the Md FiRST thread.... but now that you mention it, I dunno for sure.

Any idea what they used for radios/frequencies previously?

Only seem to be active Mon-Fri daytime... caught less than 15 minutes of total activity in the last two days on the Baltimore site (very few heardon the AA site) - mostly radio checks....

That I don't know for sure. In the Baltimore metro area, they probably used the prison's VHF freqs. I think it's a new deal for them to have wide area coverage.

Undoubtedly a newcomer who doesn't understand what FiRST is all about - he thinks he's in a regular Maryland thread.

I will try to PM him, but no guarantees...Mike
