When rebanding occurs, why not just reprogram and enter the new frequencies into your scanner ? I have tried doing that but it doesn't seem to work??? The scanner updates but I receive nothing. Is there something I'm missing? Using win500

Highly oversimplified, the problem stems from the fact that rebanding introduced a new channel plan, with some frequencies that are 'new' to the process.

Without the proper modifications, the scanner will not know how to calculate the next new channel if a conversation happens to land on one of them. These frequencies are usually spotted by having a '0' in the fourth decimal position.

As for Win500, the user guide on UtahRadio has the instructions on how to apply the changes.

As an aside, your 2096 cannot be rebanded manually - you must use software to do it. We have instructions for both ARC96 and Win96 linked in the rebanding article I mentioned previously (see message 8 of this thread)

thanks my error.... using arc500. I'll keep trying.

all the frequencies on RR have been updated to the new ones, what to do now. ?

I guess I add 15 mhz to those new frequencies in order to find the old frequency, then put those numbers in my software and then use the rebanding feature of my software to do the calculations. then save that and upload to the scanner?

holy cow i'm confused and this seems like a lot of steps?

Use the frequencies as they are in the db - they've already been adjusted.

See the ARC500 User Guide for more - really, it doesn't look like it's all that difficult. I'm not a GRE/RS person, but it seems simple enough...

yeah, I read that guide and tried again for about the 16th time. I used the "new" frequencies (there are about 10 or so listed) and then did the "rebanding" in the software (which showed all kinds of numbers and values which I don't understand). Uploaded to the scanner. Thought maybe I had it right when I heard several police units from different agencies (westminster PD, MSP and McDaniel college talking on several of the hexadecimal coded entries that I had in my scan lists. But the FD is getting nothing. I'll sometimes get one EMS channel out of the 20-30 FD channels I used to get. No dispatch, nothing.

I don't know if maybe some of the police units I was getting were still using the old stuff and their radios were not updated yet and thats the reason I heard them at all? My programming must still be wrong.

Thanks

OK, NONE of the Old Frequencies are in use so forget about those frequencies, Use ONLY the New Frequencies.
If you do not have the Custom Table set correctly you will miss out on some of the radio traffic.

I see you are using ARC 500 and a PRO 197: Follow these steps.

1: Double click in the Frequencies column.
Attachment 39891

2: Use these frequencies.
Attachment 39892

3: Double click in the Edit TTables column.
Attachment 39893

4: Click on Load Reband Table (OK there my already be numbers in these Columns,DO NOT Worry about those numbers, Just Click on Load Reband Table)
Attachment 39889

5: This is your New Reband Table. Click OK
Attachment 39890

6: A small box may appear after you click OK. > Set T-Tables to custom? Click Yes.
(unable to attach the small box image)

Now go back and recheck everything you just completed in steps 1-6. Upload the new info to your PRO 197.
(You may notice more Zero's in the Table when you recheck, It's ok.)

Thanks for all that work. I will give that a try. Do you (anybody) know anything about this list of frequencies that were reportedly sent out by the 911 center as the "new" ones? Old are listed on the left and the new are on the right

821.1625 to 806.1625

866.1625 to 851.1625

822.1375 to 807.1375

867.1375 to 852.1375

822.3375 to 807.3375

867.3375 to 852.3375

822.4250 to 807.4250

867.4250 to 852.4250

822.4500 to 807.4500

867.4500 to 852.4500

822.4750 to 807.4750

The freqs below 850 are "input" frequencies to the repeaters (the frequencies the radios transmit on). The 850+ frequencies are the frequencies the repeats transmit on and the only ones you need

Default 396T Static

I changed the frequencies in my 396T and it seems to work, however, periodically it goes to static. Based on the many tips below, I'm guessing there are one or more other settings I need to change (manually if possible) to finish re-birthing it. I noticed the live feed was doing the same thing on Monday and Tuesday too. Any thoughts gents?

Assuming here that you have version 3 firmware; the one thing you didn't mention was putting in the custom tables- you need to do this too, not just put in the new freqs...Mike

Thanx I will re-read and try to figure out where this is done. Can this be done manually without software? I used FreeScan, if anyone can offer some insight as-to where I do this in that application I'd appreciate your wisdom. This is something I've only done once on this device so I'm not going to pretend to be fluent, proficient, of familiar. Thanx ka3jjz and others.

You can do this many different ways - via FreeScan, by either downloading a fresh copy of the database (since the rebanding flag has now been set, the custom tables will be loaded for you), or you could also change the site type, (which for the 396T, is really an extension of the system, since it can't do site programming) then put the custom values in manually. Make sure you're loading the new rebanded frequencies in the TRUNK FREQUENCIES form...(this is briefly described in the FS User Guide - you DID read the section on editing sites, right? Of course you did [/sarcasm mode off, hi])

You can also do this via the keypad - assuming (ahem) that you read all the way at the bottom of the firmware update article...

If you use FS, make sure you REPLACE, not ADD on the update form.

Lots of ways to go here. None are particularly hard - if you RTM!!

Smile. It is one thing to RTM,
Another to comprehend it.
I actually kinda did comprehend some of this before things went digital.
Thanx

This file is for FreeScan users, and should work with all the DMA trunking scanners (not the SC230). You MUST have the updated firmware for the pre-XT radios for this to work.

You WILL need to edit this file down to fit your needs - use a good unzipper like 7-Zip or WinZip (never use Explorer to unzip files - it can and does corrupt them), then edit the groups to whatever you want, and DON'T forget to insert your quick keys! Virtually all the talkgroups are here (a few were dropped)

To bring this into your profile, use FILE/IMPORT/FROM FREESCAN

Enjoy...Mike

I had my skip tags set to drop the EMS and hospital stuff since I'm not interested in that - but there are so few of them, it's easy enough to bring them in via EZ Grab or do it manually...Mike

Ha, until I locate the mystery cable that I just know is in a very safe place I'm SOL. I'm looking forward to grabbing and massaging the file. Thanx

Ha, yup, in a safe place. It was still attached to the old PC that is relegated to the basement. And now I know why, because the Windows 7 PC does not have a serial port. I'm gonna get back on my tirade about using USB again....sigh. To the basement I go, tomorrow. To the + side, firmware is 3.02.02 so the perspiration shed updating that last year paid off. whew.

Default Scanner

This might not be the right thread but saw this was about carroll county and figured I would give it a shot. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive handheld scanner that is able to pick up mostly Carroll County fire and would be an added bonus if it were able to pick up other counties. I do not know much about scanners and I am at a lost when looking at them as to which ones are compatible with Carroll County. If someone could recommend some scanners to look at, I would appeciate it.

Thanks!

What scanner (Uniden/Radio Shack/GRE - doesn't matter) can I purchase (new or used) that survived the rebanding that I can get my father-in-law so he can hear Carroll County again?

Thanks
