Wasn't there a new EOC built in an old theater in The Burn, and some sort of regional backup center adjacent to it? Seems like they spent a lot of money on it back in the early 2000s.

This is really not a change in AA Fire, but today in a jumper incident on the bay bridge, a MdTAP on-scene commander was talking directly to Fire Alarm on the incident Tac channel. I *think* this has happened in the past, but this is another confirmation that the state's 700 system has provided enhanced interoperability - at least indirectly by equipping its agencies with modern subscriber units that can operate on commonly used public safety bands. Now if we could only get the USCG to buy some compatible radios...

In the past, the bridge had AA County potables and/or other options to talk directly to AA County for incidents. During those times, we've heard bridge cops (usually on FiRST these days) do daily ~0700 radio checks and even switch to the AA TAC channel/talkgroup for incidents. Given today's improved radios (mutiband, etc.), I would not be surprised if they can't just switch to a different zone on their radio and be talking to AA County. This wouldn't necessarily have anything to do with FiRST other than that it result in them getting new radios.

That is what would be implied, but only if the car is assigned permanently to that officer. Some cars float, which was one reason for the old method.

I understand that but I have noticed a couple times while an officer will call out a traffic stop or accident with one radio id (mobile radio), and then when they are outside the car, a different radio id (portable radio) will come up.

Anyone else notice the radio techs testing the fire side of the system? The subscriber unit they use has an end of transmission tone burst - any idea what that is? Unusual to hear tone bursts on this system.

Might be the DVRS deployment they have been working on.

Is the county having CAD issues? Noticed during the working fire in 28's area, every unit announced they were responding and their staffing levels. Also units are verbally announcing their statuses on other calls.

The radio guys have been working on some issue, heard them testing earlier. Last night,I noticed some transmissions substantially weaker than others with a corresponding reduction on the scanner's signal strength meter - 1 bar vs. the normal 5. Fire Alarm was on Condition Yellow earlier today. Anybody know what the condition codes are, and what each color means?

Different statuses - red, yellow - mean they are either manually dispatching (no CAD) and/or radio issues. What it does is tells the field units they are having problems - units are requested to minimize radio traffic (return to station and remain) and stations are required to monitor verbals for calls where there may be errors and/or no tones.

Sometimes, the linkage between the unit SMEs (status buttons in the units on the radios) breaks and fire alarm isn't getting that data into CAD (it may or may not work) so they verbalize those statuses and an operator must verify and/or manually enter (or just track) the statuses. It usually takes a computer reboot to get back online (or switch to a backup system).

It wasn't too long ago I recall they lost a tower in south county for a while until radio maintenance arrived to fix it. All the other towers were working so in north county, you couldn't even detect a problem. The signal was weak or non-existence in south county during that outage.

I always thought Condition Yellow was related to CAD/Computer Problems and Condition Red is related to radio problems.

Seems that they are still on Condition Yellow. They are still announcing their statuses.

Curious if they are in the process of trying to hook SMEs into the new CAD.....

I think I heard someone the plan was to switch over to the new CAD at the end of January - not sure how accurate that is.

Definitely an indication of 2 radios, one portable and one mobile. I wonder if the radio user ID is programmable by the user? Would need that to change the ID when they work a different shift or zone, which happens often.

Either that, or the dispatcher is able. I know the fire dispatchers do this on a regular basis to change between medic/paramedic for a shift, or for other reasons radios are swapped.

Has anyone though about updating the RRDB entry for primary control channel for this system? It has not been 854.3375 for quite a while now...

It should probably be shown with 3 red control channels and no blue. It bounces between the three pretty often.

I'm hearing indications that next Tuesday (Jan 30th) will be an interesting day to monitor AA County Fire for some changes.... probably starting very early in the morning (as is usually the case)....

Interesting... Is this the switch over for the new CAD?

Probably unrelated but Parks Department just got new radios last week. They have programmed a new talkgroup for the department, 5456.

I am also hearing now that Tuesday will be the day for the new CAD.

I wonder with the new CAD, will the police districts change too? When they went with the new CAD last time they wanted to change the police districts alignment and then reverted back to the old districts when they stopped using the new CAD.
