Massachusetts started building their statewide 800 Mhz TRS back around 1989. I dont think they have 100% statewide coverage yet. I think the mountains out near the New York border are a problem. Peter Sz

Doctordave-
Kent county's migration is a RUMOR I heard from some guys in their FD. Would be nice for them, though.
The state police bought new Kenwood mobiles because they are cheaper than Motorola gear...lowest bidder. Truth is, they had more cars than radios, so they needed something. They ran out of servicible radios. Does Moto even MAKE a low-band radio anymore??
The MdTA Police has been using Kenwood gear for quite some time now. It's probably all on the same bid.
As far at their MDTs, MSP is using cellular providers for the data. Down here in southern Maryland, they use Verizon, but I was under the impression Verizon is a brick in most outlying areas off of I-68 in Allegany and Garrett counties. I am not sure which carrier they use out there.

Motorola currently offers 3 mobile radios in the Professional Series that cover lowband, the CDM750, 1250 & 1550.

Darn... I was going to get all excited.
I wish MIEMSS would be their own system. I hate, let me repeat HATE the 800mhz patch that Howard has. I'd say a good 80% of the consults I do fail, mostly because I can't ever hear replies. Maybe with luck this will happen 10 years from now

MIEMSS does have their own system.. The 463 / 468 med channel system is still very much in place and working..

We have a fair number of units that no longer have the UHF band radios, so I am stuck using the 800mhz radios. I use the UHF band radios whenever possible beause that system actually works well. I am sure that the 800mhz actually has better coverage overall than the UHF, but the patch between the two kills me.

It never ceases to amaze me how many of the counties (and the city) require their providers to use portable radios in the back of medic units to consult on the jurisdictional EMRC talk groups. Ever ambulance has a mobile radio. Why not provide a dual-head unit, place a head with a handset of headset in the patient compartment, and your consults will be loud and clear every time. The back of an ambulance is not the optimal use for a portable radio.

Maryland seems big on MA/COM cause they are based/headquarted in Maryland.

M/A-COM is, and has been, located in Lowell, Massachusetts for some years now.
