Default Howard County Talk Groups

Hi all,

Quick question on talk groups and Howard County...

I have a Pro96 handheld scanner and last night I reprogramed all the talk groups for Howard County. Since the Pro96 only has 150 available talk group channels I could not programm all of the 190 some talk groups
for howard county. So I left out the talk groups I was not interested in, like utilities, and prisons, and some admin groups but......

Here is my problem, now when listening I still get the talk groups I left out and the scanner will not lock out those talk groups since they are not programed into the scanner.

How does everyone else handle this? shoud I program in the channels I wish to lock out or what?

I have not tested this, but if i eliminate some of the talk groups I want to hear I should still receive them correct?

Thanks for your help.

You have to close the bank. While holding on a talkgroup, look directly below the bank number. If there's a plus sign then the bank is open, if there's a minus sign, then th banks closed. While a bank is closed you can only scan the talkgroups that you programmed into the bank, if it's opened then you get all activity while you scan. Hope this helps, good luck.

You also might to leave out the Talkgroups that are encrypted, notated by the "E" vice the "D" in the database. No use entering these as the Pro96 won't even stop on em...

Forgot to mention, you can toggle a bank open or closed by pressing FUNC 5.

Default Howard Talkgroups

I live in Howard County and what I do is put the 800 freqs in bank 0 and 1.
Then dedicate the sub-banks in bank 0 to police and the sub-banks in bank 1 to the other stuff.

1-0 fire
1-1 fire
1-2 utilities/highways
1-3 stuff
1-4 stuff

Its worth tying up 2 banks to get everything in my county in my scanner.
For other counties of interest to me, I scan in open mode.

Default I forgot one thing

On the Fire sub-bank, I usually turn off
1-2
1-3
1-4

This way I can just hear fire talkgroups. If I want to hear guys patching pot-holes, I can just toggle the sub-bank.
