I've noticed that when listening to Waltham Fire, when they are finished with a call, they will say something like "Code this one a 102" or something similar.
Does anyone know where I can get the list that would tell you what a "Code 102" is or stands for?
Mike - scroll down to Page 33 - that should be what you are looking for. You can Google for NFIRS (Natl Fire Incident Reporting System) if you want more info. Peter Sz
Thanks Peter, It sort of sounds like what I'm looking for (albeit a wee bit more complicated than I would like to see).
I'll listen closely, and see if the other tidbits of information surrounding the call jibes with what they code it, and whether or not their code's are of the same structure outlined in the document you linked too!
I can assure you that Waltham FD is using the NFIRS.
In fact, I believe that all of the District 13 departments are now using NFIRS. What is not standard is for the Incident Commander to dictate the code to Fire Alarm over the radio. Some do; some remit that communication to other modes.
Mike - you might want to look at Massachusetts State Fire Marshall's webpage. AFAIK they are the folks that collect the NFIRS data from the Massachusetts fire departments. Maybe something at the State Fire Marshall page explains how a Code 102 relates to a Code 100. Or maybe you could drop a note direct to Waltham Fire. They might be able to fill you in. Peter Sz
