Default Boston EMS - "BMC Menino"

Hi Gang,

Listening to Boston EMS via online feed, I wonder why they refer to Boston Medical Center as the BMC Menino. Is there another BMC location that receives ambulances? Or is this a political reference to the Mayor?

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, there are two campuses. Menino (or Harrison) is the old Boston City Hospital. East Newton, is the old University Hospital. They merged in 1996 to form "Boston Medical Center", but still maintain two separate Emergency Departments. Hence units go to either one depending on the patient's specific problem. For example, Menino has the trauma service and pediatric ED, while most cardiac patients go to East Newton because that's where the cardiac cath lab is located. Stroke patients can go to either, and so on.

Thank you both for your replies. Two ED's in one hospital. Brilliant!

We stayed at the Hampton Crosstown a while back, a scannist's delight!

Thanks to Ed Burke if you are out there.

No. Just two different Hospitals that merged, but kept the two different ER's due to volume and politics.
