Suffolk County Sheriffs, County Sheriffs scanner frequencies
Anyone know some of the House of Corrections scanner frequencies? Like Suffolk County Sheriffs department, Jail, and House of Corrections (south bay) Thanks, Steve.

SNE has much of the info you are asking for.
Each Sheriff is listed by County, updates and corrections always appreciated.
PS, they are Houses of Correction [No S], just like Dept of Correction [No S]

So let me ask, I live in Hull, I can get Boston, State, and local. Not sure if I can get the HOC or other corrections, and HOC departments. Is there a website where you put in a code and can listen to any department you want?

Suffolk County Jail and the HOC are on the Boston City Trunk. If you can get that, you should be able to hear them.

I can hear the Boston trunk in Weymouth and where you are in Hull it's just as close and easy. Put the control channels in your scanner that ecps92 pointed you to previously and you will hear it. Any of the "Old" listings shown are gone, like the old Type I listings, as far as talk groups are concerned, shown here: City of Boston Trunking System

FYI, they do [Suffolk] still run the 800 Conventional channels as well as the B-TRS

Thanks..
Thanks guys but I have no idea what anyone is saying. Just bought the scanner to listen to local town police when I am watching TV or some event is going on. But being from Boston, I wanted to listen to some boston stuff. So I put in Boston Fire, etc.
I have everything I need, and want and programmed everything into my scanner. Except The Suffolk County Sheriffs Department House of Corrections, and Jail. I thought it would be cool to listen to it.
I live in Hull, MA. I want to be able to pick up the Jail and HOC. In Suffolk. So can someone just post the frequency for the Jail, and HOC, here and I can just enter it into my scanner and listen away...
I went to the sites and looked but I am so confused, if anyone can make this easier for me and hook me up that would be great. I know that I may have to listen to a Boston General Channel to pick the up so far away, anything that will work will be great, thanks, Steve...

Look at all the links that we have posted and you will find what you are looking for. If your scanner is not a trunking capable scanner then you'll have to put in all the frequencies and lock out the control channels when they change. The links all pretty much explain what it is you need.

thanks guys..
That is why I am trying to say, I read your text which refers to words I never heard before. I open text and see so many codes, I am confused, and numbers that don't make sense.
My scanner is old, it is brand new in the box, never been used it is a Uniden Twin Turbo bearcat 200 channels, model BC 220XLT.
What is trunking? Do you know if my scanner has it? I know I can enter numbers and it picks up the local police and fire.

I don't think it does trunking, so just put in the frequencies and see what happens. It will do conventional stuff anyway.

A better antenna will help.

I listed the type of scanner I have in this forum, can I get a bigger better antena for it? Any tips on the best so I can hear from Hull.

You can get a better antenna, but the 220XLT doesn't follow trunk systems, so you'll only be able to listen to the frequencies without being able to select talk groups. You'll hear a lot of other stuff on those frequencies as well.
Since it has a BNC connector, you have a wide selection of antennas to choose from. It all depends if you want to just replace the rubber duckie with another one, use a base antenna, magnetic mount mobile antenna as a base antenna, and so on.

Thanks, I was able to get the department I wanted in from my town, it has a little static but I can hear it. I do want to make it clearer, I do not plan on talking it out of the house, so any tips on what to get, and where for not too much money. The more powerful for a reasonable price of course.

Firstly, no there is no site that you can just punch in a frequency and listen live, some people provide feeds with their own scanners but thats not what your thinking of.
I would look into a magnetic mount mobile antenna if I were you. It is much cheaper than getting a big antenna mounted on your house and you can put it on any magnetic surface.
Ham radio outlet in Salem, NH sells decent ones like the Larsen 150/450/800 but it will run you about $80 mount/coax and antenna.
Radio shack may have cheaper ones but I can't comment on performance.
If its the regular 800 mhz freqs your listening on, a first option might be to look into an 800 mhz "rubber duck" antenna from radio shack. Its made specifically for 800 mhz and may improve your performance though I dont know how much it would effect your other listening which seems to be UHF (ie 400 mhz spectrum)
I'm out here in Utah for a while but I'm from Randolph. I would get Boston PD/FD, etc from home with the rubber duck but occasionally there would be some static. I would take my mag mount antenna and put it on a flat magnet on my deck and run the cable inside and get full signal strength and even hear Southern New Hampshire PD's quite regularly. Keep in mind if you go this route, you will need some kind of "ground plane" like a big flat magnetic surface that you can put outside near a window or inside on the window sill where ever. You could also use something in the house like a file cabinet or similar but it may not be as good unless you have it right near the window. Should still help out either way.
I guess 800 mhz is a little different than VHF/UHF but I'm still kind of surprised you would have any trouble with anything Boston from Hull. Its basically in the direct line of site of any repeaters in Boston, nothing between you except the harbor. I have no problems even with the blue hills in between.

A water shot to Boston from Hull is a piece of cake. I was down there last weekend and had to shut off the Boston trunk stuff because it was just too chatty for me. I hear it as far away as Whitman, too.

Piece of cake is exactly what I would expect

You really should not need a "better" antenna at all thinking about this more. Sometimes with 800 mhz (people correct me if I'm wrong) moving a few feet in the house makes a huge difference in minimizing interference (ie NEXTEL sites).
There are very specific spots in my house that the scanner has to be located in for me to get MSP Zone 5, if I move the scanner less than a foot, I get static and it will even drop the control channel completely. We're not talking long distance here, we're talking Randolph to the top of the highest hill in the immediate area, Blue Hill which I can see from my backyard. The nextel site nearby just blows it away unless I'm in the right spot in the house. Its a pain but we have to deal with it until re-banding takes place.
