I'm curious how close are you to Methuen? Not hearing anything here in the Boston area on the UHF, getting the usual strong signal on their VHF.

gordie,i think methuen like most new narrow-band systems will push less wattage, sometimes as little as 50 or less, you may not hear them at all at a certain distance.

484.925 appears to be licensed for the same site as the VHF (water tank off of Forest St.) even with lower power should still get decent range when the system is completed. They may not be operating from that site yet if they are just starting to install.

Methuen Fire New UHF Freq
Does anyone know if Methuen FD officially made the cut to their new frequency? I got a report that they are not being heard on my feed. I was listening to them yesterday morning during storm, I haven't heard them today. Unfortunately I am not near the scanner to plug in the new freq at this time. Just checking to see if that is the actual problem.
Thanks,
Mike

They were on 154.01 yesterday, haven't heard them yet today. Usually there is a period of simulcasting before & during a change over and that hasn't happened yet just some sporadic testing and brief periods of simulcasting.

Methuen Fire New UHF Freq
Thanks Gordon. I heard them this morning on 154.01. Not sure what's going on with the listener who reported that they aren't being heard on the feed...

They're still walking around w/ the HT1000 and Kenwood VHF portables. I have not seen any firefighters with the UHF radios yet.

Hearing some activity on the Methuen UHF this morning; testing of various mobile and portable radios and intermittent simulcast of VHF incident traffic. The signal is not real strong signal here in the Boston area, can't hear it on a scanner but getting them on the I-Com UHF.

Interesting, as Lawrence police still hold the license for 484.925, and Methuen Fire holds the license for 482.5625, which Lawrence police still use.

Even more interesting is Lawrence Police just renewed 484.925 MHz in February.

If you look up the licenses and read the attachments I believe you will find letters confirming a swap deal allowing Lawrence PD to keep 482.5625 in exchange for giving up 484.925 to Methuen FD.

True, but that was September 2011.
Lawrence applied for renewal of 484.925 on 2/26/13, granted 2/27/13.

The are in the process of the final radio/portable installs and programming, should be switching over in the very near future. Not sure how long the high-band simulcasting will last.

I was listening yesterday and today, and the new repeater has a morse code ID that I haven't fully decoded yet. The next ID should be around 10:15 am.
I guess they're not waiting for the license?
