Warren Bank Robbery Attempt

Charter One at 12 and Dequindre. Happened about 15 minutes ago. Suspect was white, mid 20s, wearing a green jacket. Left eastbound from the bank on foot.

Multiple units responding at this time.

This same branch was robbed about 2 weeks ago.

UPDATE: Sterling Heights has a K9 Unit on scene. Suspect walked out holding cash (including dye pack). Dye pack did explode.

There was mention on the scanner that another Charter One was robbed somewhere in the area an hour or so prior, with the same suspect description. I didn't catch the location of the other CO.

I work at the Charter One at 19 and Hayes in Clinton Township. We got hit this morning. Of all days, I was off today. All of my co-workers are ok!

Why is this even happening in this day and age? Don't these banks have survellience, security, and bullet proof glass?

alot of reasons including drugs, desperate people or just dumb crooks, is why survllience, security and bullet proof glass, don't always work!!!!

Last year in Niles, a armed guard shot and killed one bank robberr, it still didn't stop bank robberies in this area.

My guess would be the 10% unemployment that Michigan is experiencing. Desperate people do desperate things. Just wait until summer gets here. It will get much worse before it even begins to get better.

Banks do have videos and alarm systems, some do have guards and bulletproof glass, but and for reasons I wont post here, most banks have certain procedures that they have to follow to protect the employees and customers.

Yesterday there were 4 bank robberies that I heard about, Sterling Heights, Warren, Southfield, and I think Clinton Twp (could be wrong on the last one).

I'm glad the police caught the creep! From what I was told, the Clinton Township Police responded very quickly! Thumbs up to them!
The suspect was also charged with possession of heroin. I guess he needed the money for his addiction. How sad.
