Fire Buffing in Detroit - Need Advice
Hello all,
A group of us guys are getting together and going on a trip to Detroit for 4-5 days to chase some fires. Because there is will a group of us we were thinking of renting some radios or "borrowing" someones radio system to communicate with each other rather than pay out the ass for roaming charges on our cellphones.
1. Is there anyone willing to allow us use to a local repeater or trunked VHF/UHF system. I am a ham operator myself so I can provide some radios, we just need the repeater use.
2. If no repeaters are available does anyone know about renting nextel phones? and how good is the nextel coverage in detroit.
3. Does anyone have any tips about chasing fires/Buffing in Detroit? I was told I should bring a bullet proof vest.. I couldnt tell if the person was joking or not... Is there any stringers in the detroit area that can provide some information on the Police and how they react to media people.. I am from Vancouver BC Canada and the last thing I want is to get arrested because some cop is having a bad day.
