ALGONAC— Authorities failed to find a missing 67-year-old Macomb County man today, plan to continue searching the St. Clair River’s North Channel.

Algonac police Sgt. Ed Silver said searchers would try again Sunday, weather permitting.

The St. Clair County dive team, U.S. Coast Guard and Algonac Fire Department began searching for the man at 6 p.m. today after finding a suicide note in his car, which was parked near the waterfront Algonac Boardwalk.

The man had been missing since 7 a.m. Thursday.

No one saw the man enter the water. Police say he is a white male, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 to 160 pounds.

The man mostly speaks Italian, but also speaks broken English.

Anyone who saw a man matching that description is asked to call the Algonac Police Department at (810) 794-9772.

Members of the St. Clair County dive team are being towed against the current in the North Channel of the St. Clair River to see if they can find a 67-year-old Macomb County man who has been missing for about two days.

Police found the man's car early this morning near the Greater Algonac Chamber of Commerce building on St. Clair River Drive. A suicide note written in Italian was in the car.

St. Clair County Sheriff Marine Division Sgt. Ed Golden said there is a slim chance the man is alive if he is in the water.

They do not know for sure he is in the river, Golden said

ALGONAC - The U.S. Coast Guard, the St. Clair County dive team and the Algonac Fire Department are continuing to search the St. Clair River along the city boardwalk for a 67-year-old Macomb County man believed to have committed suicide.

Algonac police Sgt. Ed Silver said police found a suicide note written in Italian early today in the man's car near the Greater Algonac Chamber of Commerce building at 1396 St. Clair River Drive.

Police noticed the snow-covered car about 1 a.m. and discovered the car belonged to a man who had been missing for two days. They had his relatives translate the note.

Believing the man jumped or fell into the nearby river, they began to search the water at about 6 a.m. in the North Channel near the chamber of commerce building

A Coast Guard helicopter and air boat have been called in to assist with a search for a man who police believe may have fallen into the St. Clair River, Guard officials say.

Detroit Sector Search and Rescue Controller Patricia Bacha said the office was asked around 9:30 a.m. to assist the St. Clair County Sheriff Department.

Reports indicate a man who had been missing for two days may have fallen into the water off of the Algonac boardwalk.

Bacha said the St. Clair County Dive Team is on the scene and an airboat is en route from the St. Clair County Shores Coast Guard Station.

Officials from the Algonac Fire Department have a boat on the scene to assist the county’s dive team.

No additional details are available at this time.

I was monitoring the USCC, and MCS today while they were searching for him in the Metro Beach area. The USCC was flying at 800 ft, and the MCS were behind them at 500 feet.
