Default Monroe Co Questions

For the apartment fire today dispatch told the units on-scene to go to Special Operations 5. I don't see one of those in the listing, and up here I only hear dispatch TG 2249. One of the units asked what the exact designation was and whether it was Emergency 5 and was told no - just channel 5. What is it?

Thanks - any idea why it would not be called Emergency 5 or is the listing here wrong? Dispatch specifically said Special Operations 5...

Rob,

I am hearing a lot of operations on EMERGENCY 5. Since there is really no "special operations" channels as you know, I would say that it is EMERGENCY 5. Some may just call it something different. So you can hear dispatch from up there but you cannot hear when they switch?? Thants weird

I only hear the dispatch TG once or twice a week tops, usually on the Lansing tower, so either the band is up good or someone is in my area with a radio. Same with Monroe Sheriff - it's rare but I'll get it now and then. Never any of the alternate channels (I'm guessing those don't go out of area.)

Strange all the different designations - I know it says EMER5 on their radios so wonder why it would be called something else.

it may not be the most politically correct thing to say but you would have to know the wonderful individual that was saying that i.e. the lieutenant in charge. there have been alot of issues with him. some of those guys on that department JUST got their radio training so they are not yet real comfortable with everything.

They chose EMERGENCY 5 on their own and said that is going to be what they do all of the time for some lame reason. dispatch was also suppose to assign them a talkgroup en route but they forgot to as they are still getting use to things as well.

i do have to say though that the firefighters did a good job stopping the fire as quick as they did and made every effort to save the 2 year old that didnt make it which happens to be a friend of the family. i was told it may have been that child that was playing with a family members lighter that may have started it. i could not believe that there command said to leave any victims that are not breathing just to leave them lay where they were. that was a little disturbing.
