Default Story/ Nxdn Users In Michigan

Last night a bunch of us road out to Kalamazoo to visit family for Christmas. There were a lot of accidents on I-94. When we were getting ready to leave Kalamazoo at night we got a call from my brother in law that he broke down. It was about 4 degrees out and he had his wife and two kids in the car with no heat. I gave up my seat so his kids could ride home. Luckily my father in law has an extended Trailblazer. There were 4 adults and 4 kids able to fit in. So me and my brother in law stayed behind freezing waiting for a tow truck. The tow truck driver that came out , I give him credit, was the best damn tow truck driver I ever came across. He stood out in the negative wind chill changing out the frozen (due to water in diesel fuel) filter. We were all helping out since the weather was so bad. We started taking turns sitting in the tow truck so we didn't get hypothermia (literally). He told me to answer the phone if it rings or answer dispatch if they call on the radio. I was looking at the radio and at the time I thought it was on an LTR. The display said CALL ID: T1 (Tow 1) and when dispatch called it gave their I.D, then when I keyed up to answer it displayed PORTAGE TOWER. When I got home I looked on Kenwood's site and it was a NX-700/800 radio. From my brief time using it, I was impressed at the sound clarity. It seemed a little more "punchier" than an analog carrier. In the end the driver got a big tip and was thanked profusely. He was also a volunteer firefighter. After, it took me almost 2 hours in a heated truck to be able to fully move all my toes. I was only semi-prepared for an emergency. I had a winter hat, gloves and a scarf. I will keep more winter survival items from now on (winter boots, extra sweater, CB)

So here is my first confirmed Kenwood NEXEDGE (NXDN) user in Michigan:
Graham's Towing Kalamazoo, MI

Anyone know of any other NXDN users?

Ray Air,

Glad to see that you came acrossed a good person and they are still in existence. As far as the emergency equipment, a lot of people will laugh at you for keeping it in your truck or car. I get it all the time, but the fact of the matter is, emergency happen. You NEVER know when your going to be called up to "give your seat up" for that mother and daughter and be left in the freezing cold.

I compliment you for doing that and for standing up and doing the right thing. We need more people like you around. Keep the gear in your truck or car.

btw...you got to play radio too!

Thanks for sharing that story
