Default MPSCS Interop w/ Lucas County, OH

I've seen in a number of places, that, with the colocation of the Monroe County MPSCS subsystem and the Lucas County P25 System at the tower at TFD 18, there are "special talkgroups" that are set up for interoperability between states.

Anyone know what these are? Is it TG2585? or the two talkgroups on the Lucas County system (one for fire, one for police)?

I have yet to see any dedicated linking of talk groups between MPSCS, Lucas County or MARCS for that matter for local public safety interoperability between Michigan and Ohio. The Interop talk groups on the Lucas County system are for radios that are provided to the surrounding counties for mutual aid. I have yet to see any evidence of Monroe County talk groups being used on the Lucas County system. I've always seen that 2585 listed on MPSCS, but never heard it patched to anything here in Ohio.

The only time I heard any extended interoperability between Ohio and Michigan was during the Reliance Propane fire in Bedford Twp back in 2007. The then Toledo FD analog fire ground talk group was patched into the MPSCS Monroe County Emergency talk group to support operations.

I have also heard the Ohio National Guard using their talk groups patched between MPSCS and MARCS, but usually just for summer training convoys up into Michigan.

The conventional 800 MHz I-CALL and I-TAC frequencies are in Monroe and Lucas County radios and can also be used as another option.

The reason there isn't anything linking Lucas Co to Monroe Co is becuase there isnt' a linking tower. Thats in the process of being built. Once it's completed then you will start seeing them pop up on there. Not to mention Mutual Aid talkgroups being created to be the final link of Interop.

I thought that was the tower at Toledo's FD18 station?

I've heard 2585 used a few times now. Everytime it was HVA calling another EMS dispatch from OH looking for Monroe Co. coverage. Haven't heard it used for anything else yet. I've heard of a report of it being used during a pursuit once, but I didn't get to hear that one.

The Mutual Aid talkgroups that are in the database here came from somewhere yet nobody says where from. These talkgroups have never been used and there is no mutual aid system or talkgroups between Michigan and ohio, or Michigan and Indiana or anywhere else. Could it be that it is being discussed? Sure, but as of right now there is nothing except what is on the currenty Monroe Simulcast, but I dont think Ohio has the rights to transmit on that system.

That is completely opposite of:

Sure. 2585 has been used, but as Paul said, mostly HVA using it to contact Promedica in Ohio. What I am referring to is the Mutual Aid Talkgroups that are listed elsewhere on this site. Seems there are plans to implement them, but they have never been used as of today. Sometimes I wonder why we list this things if they are never ever used nor have they ever been *heard* used.

Ohio does not have authorization to transmit on the MPSCS, just like the MPSCS has no authorization to transmit on MARCS. However, it would really be awesome if that were the case, but it has not, nor will it happen for a while yet.

There should be some sort of designation for "talkgroups in the system but never heard." It's good to list all known talkgroups just in case, because the one time you want to hear them is the time you don't want to program them!

On two separate occasions, Monroe County used 2585 as a patch to the Lucas County TRS, when they had high speed pursuits that went across the state line into Ohio. This was done in the late afternoon and thankfully, the suspects were captured after a spike strip was successfully deployed outside of Holland. After the event was over, and everyone left the scene, the patch was taken down.

Is it possible to have a talkgorup from one system that is permanently patched or linked to another system. I ask this because on the Lucas County system talkgroup 10496 is the mutual aid talkgroup with Ottawa County SO. If a Lucas County radio calls Ottawa County on this talkgroup is also comes over the MARCS system on talkgroup 63568, which is the Ottawa County mutaul aid group on MARCS and Ottawa County SO would answer on their MARCS radio. So it is possible that the Lucas County talkgroup of 10512 (Monroe County SO) is permanently patched or linked to MPSCS talkgroup 2585.

Yes, permanent patches can be done.
