166.2875???

Hi everyone. I'm a little confused about who is using the FM Freq of 166.2875. It is listed at Federal Law Enforcement Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference as belonging to the ATF Tri cities of Flint, Saginaw-Bay City/Midland however that is not what I'm picking up listening from Port Huron. During the day I occasionally hear buses being taken in for fuel/repair and tonight since 21:30 all I hear are scores from hockey games being reported to someone who is recording them in some type of log. One com I heard was "Is there any place for my referees to get changed?" The freq is very active as of 22:22 on Feb 6, and I'm wondering if people involved with the Silverstick hockey tournament are using this (if the tournament is still going on).

Also, does anyone know what freqs/TG the ATF use in Michigan or are they encrypted?

There might be a Nac attached to that freq so you can monitor it. W/o the nac it opens it up.

I monitor federal stuff almost exclusively in SE Michigan. It sounds to me like you are picking up some Canadian traffic by your description of what you are hearing.

If you were hearing ATF it would most likely be P25 and running a NAC of 650. The ATF repeater in the Detroit area has been P25 for awhile now. The main repeater in Detroit is 165.2875 but is usually not very active. I did hear some testing last week on the repeater and that is the first I had heard it active in quite awhile. I believe they may also have a few TG's on MPSCS if I remember right.

The Federal freq listing on Radio Reference for Michigan is not 100% correct. There is a lot of inncorrect information on there and a lot of outdated information.

I would usually say leave the freq in "open mode" just incase, but if you want to filter out that canadian stuff you are hearing you will have to assign a NAC.

Before ATF went P25 they would use a PL of 100.0 Hz. It's possible they still have the capability to operate in analog mode still.
