I-Call: New Experience
I just this week had my first ever reception of an I-Call on MPSCS. Normally where I live, listening to the Sumnerville Tower, I've never picked one up, and only within the past six months did I have the proper programming in my 396T to allow it (thanks to RR).
But my job takes me all over, usually in Indiana, although this day I had some service calls in Michigan. I was sitting in the parking lot of the McDonald's in White Pigeon (across the street from the MSP), checking out the Jones tower, when all of a sudden I heard a transmission, and looked at the display and saw something like this: "ID: 714xxx - 714xxx". I quickly realized the leading "7" meant it was an I-Call, and I assume the remaining five are a specific TG or individual ID for the unit.
I know TGs that start with "14" are not typically MSP units from that post (White Pigeon), so if anyone can enlighten me as to the general thing I was hearing, please chime in. I didn't listen long enough to catch the gist of the conversation. I suppose it could be anybody else using the MPSCS.
Also, when you catch one of these, are you hearing the car-to-car from the tower repeater, or are you hearing it straight from the cars, like conventional radio?
Thanks for any info.
