Macomb and St. Clair County MPSCS Is Down

Currently, the 9-1-1 radio systems are down in Macomb and St. Clair Counties. Apparently, none of the dispatch consoles are working. At this time, both counties are in site-trunking mode, and have limited communications. However, Station 20 is using I-CALL and I-TAC1 for radio traffic.

The new system does have its advantages, but it also has its major drawbacks if there is a problem.
The older basic 1 channel repeaters and dispatch systems never had failure problems.
If the tower did go down, they simply dispatched from the 911 center direct. Sure they had less range, but they could do simplex still. They could still do fire tone outs, and still communicate. Of course they couldnt do CAD or GPS back then, but they went years without it.

I just feel that the Millions of $$ that were spent on the new systems, they should still have a better fallback system. There is no reason why the dispatch counsel shouldn't ever work.

Heck HAM repeaters are more failsafe and have less problems, on a $150 handheld or mobile and a $2500 repeater setup.

Or maybe it was those bus radios, haha.

The old system had a lot of problems with the remotes in the north end of the county and the south was all individual cities with their own system.

While I sided with you on the bus radios, I think that interoperatiblity between all the first responders in Michigan is worth the price tag of the statewide MSPSC system.

A console controlled local control station is a great way to do backup. Short of this, if you loose the T1 connection to the Zone, all your talk groups are gone (red "X"). Conventional stations, paging, etc is still functional though.
