Digital Scanner Reception Night vs Day
I have a Pro-96 Trunking scanner and it seems to me that I get better reception during the day than at night. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I have the "800 MhZ" antenna. I am forced to leave some frequencies in FM mode instead of Motorola mode to hear all of the traffic. But when I do this, I have to listen to a lot of unwanted radio traffic.

Not sure what you are saying... It sounds like a programming issue - you don't need any more than your local control channels in MO mode. You should not have ANY channel in FM mode, it sounds like you have too many frequencies in there.

By selecting fm you just took the radio out of trunking mode and placed it in conv mode.
That’s the reason you have more traffic. Like Rdale say's you only need the control channels.
I get better reception during the night than the day. Could something be turning on at night causing interference?

I am not sure what the problem is. Normally I leave all of the channels in Motorola mode (hence the trunking) but when I do this some radio traffic is skipped. I am thinking it may possibly be because there is less radio traffic at night where I live compared to the daytime. Either way I thought that all digital radio traffic had to be ran through the control channel, and if so then I should be hearing everything when set in MO mode. Nothing that I can think of would cause interference (computer, another scanner, etc...).

Missing talk groups
When in trunking mode are you scanning in Open or Closed bank mode?

I know I am missing traffic because I hear a unit clearing a traffic stop and never heard them make the stop or things like that. I am scanning in closed bank mode and I do have all of the talkgroup id's saved that I want to hear and they are not locked out. Just seems like if they are talking constantly then everything is ok, but once things slow down a bit I miss a lot of radio traffic.

They could be using their MCT for making the stop. What agencies are you trying to listen to?

I am trying to listen to the sheriff dept's, state police, township police, etc... They all use the same system APCO 25. And it varies in what traffic I miss. Sometimes its just "clear have you out" when I didnt hear the cops talk, or something along that lines. What exactly is a MCT??

Computer terminal, where they can press a button that shows their status. Still need to know your location (don't see that in your profile) and what sheriff's dept / etc.

Kipper
They are the mobile computer terminals in the cars. aka MDT .
The officers can run lien checks on people, fill out reports, talk to other officers on them, pull up records, dispatch calls, ect. When a car is dispatched to a call the call is on the screen. There are buttons they can press such as in-route, on-sence, in-service and such. Some officers use it all the time talking very little on radio. Important calls always go over both MDT and radios. You can goggle for "Police MDT" for more info.
