Narrow band changes

I was on the Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority web page a while back. Mention was made about budgeting moneys for new radios and other expenses related to what was was termed narrow band change over (or something to that effect) Can anyone explain this to me and explain what it means for us scanner listeners? Are we going to need new scanners? will this new system even be be able to monitor this new system? Is this going to affect all bands or is it limited to certain bands? I have been thinking of purchasing a new scanner, something with digital capabilities, however I do not want to spend money for something that may not work in a year or two.

It has no impact on the scanner you use. It means they'll have some new frequencies, likely in the same band. Has nothing to do with digital either...

Thanks for the information, I suspected what you said was the case. The thing that threw me off was it sounds like ottawa county is going to replace all their radios, rather then reprogram the current ones.
