I see people are really reading the stuck threads at the top.

Looking in the database would be the first stop.

There is no "frequency" - they are part of the MPSCS trunked system.

You need one of the newer scanners capable of scanning the 800 freqs. The Uniden 396/996 series, GRE 500/600 or whatever the version Radio Shack radio is. You then need to go to the link below, scroll down the list of freqs until you get to 7-001, Detroit Simulcast. Enter the red & blue freqs. Then scroll way down to Wayne County - Detroit Fire Department and enter the Dec numbers which are the talk groups you want to listen too. Depending on where you live will depend how well you hear them. Some folks get them well others not so well.

Default Frequency for Detroit Fire

You will need a digital scanner, then you'll need the control channel found here under MPSCS tower 701. Then you'll need the talk groups also found here under MPSCS.

Welcome to Radio Reference Tyler!

Receiving anything out of Detroit can be tricky these days. In addition to going digital, they're also using a simulcast configuration which can be difficult to monitor clearly at times. So in addition to the right equipment, the right control channel frequency, and talk group, you're location, and antenna can make a big difference as well.

RR does have live audio from several sources, Detroit Fire being one of them.

Try this link:
Wayne County, Michigan (MI) Live Police, Fire, and EMS Scanners on RadioReference.com

See how that works for you.

Default Detroit Fire

Tyler,

It all depends on where you live. If you don't live in Detroit it may not be the easiest thing to monitor. If you are too far from Detroit forget it. Detroit is a sub system of the MPSCS state radio system. The control channel is simulcast on all towers at the same time. All scanners have an issue with this.

For the most part the best scanners for this are the
GRE PSR 500
GRE PSR 600
Radio Shack Pro-106
Radio Shack Pro-197
Uniden 396XT
Uniden 996XT

All are around $500 with sales on The Radio Shack scanners ranging from $399 down to $300 last Christmas. Most of the sales are $100 to $130 off. There hasn't been another $200 sale since Christmas.

First thing to do is start reading the WIKI here on trunking then on digital trunking. Then start looking through the database on the MPSCS system and get to know a bit about the subject. Understanding the system and trunking will make it a bit easier.

Scanning can provide hours of entertainment and understanding how it all works makes the entertainment much more enjoyable.

Enjoy

Les

What model scanner do you have? By letting folks know helps us give you the information you're looking for. As has been stated, the WIKI is full of info that helps to explain scanners and digital trunking, etc.

You got to be more specific. Someone 8 miles away with a clear shot may get a great signal, and someone 3 miles away with a few trees in the way will not (like myself). Certain metro areas get a better signal than others. I believe north and east of Detroit has better luck than south and west.
