Default Setting up Win96 to listen to Sterling Heights PD

I live very close to Sterling Heights (Troy) and would like to listen to their police/fire radio transmissions. I am listening with a Pro 96 and I use Win96/RR to import frequencies and program it.

I am not sure which "Channels" I have to select when I'm using the RR frequency import method. I currently have all of the Sterling Heights Talkgroups (from the MPSCS) but I'm not sure which channels to use since I ONLY want to hear Sterling Heights PD/FD out of this particular scanner. Should I be using Mt. Clemens (868.400 and 868.900) or should I use Macomb County (868.2625 and 868.9875) or neither?

Right now I seem to be hearing a lot of stuff from Roseville/Shelby Township. If anyone can critique my file or offer suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Dan

Your pro96 does not do well with the macomb tower (868.9875)its a simulicast system it will be choppy at best .Even my pro 106 does not do well for that tower and I live in Warren .I know someone will tell me about location but thats not the issue at my house .868.900 I beleive is not a control tower any longer .the only 2 control towers in macomb are 868.9875 and 868,1625-romeo '

Dan:

The Mount Clemens tower site is not active. For Macomb County you want to use only the control channel frequency of 868.9875, which is the primary. The alternate is 868.2650, but it is only used if something goes wrong with the primary. Do not program any of the voice frequencies. There are nine towers on the Macomb County Simulcast system, that use these frequencies all at the same time. (Ten towers according to RR's data, but no one can tell me where the tenth one is).

If you set your scanner to scan in "OPEN" mode, you will receive any and all of the talk-groups that are on their system. If you scan in "CLOSED" mode you will hear nothing, unless you program the TG's you want to monitor.

Bill

I don't have the choppy problem at all on any of the Macomb towerswith my 96. Mine runs smooth as silk on that and St. Clair County. Only place I have a issue is with Warren's system when Im in Warren. But as I understand even their preps and mobiles aren't clear and they often are choppy.

Freqs: Do you mostly monitor from a fixed location? If so, consider putting up an outside Yagi antenna pointed at just one of the Macomb 219 simulcast towers. It really did the trick for me.
