Default Michigan Tribal Court ?

Howdy folks, Two days ago I passed and then was passed by a Chevy Suburban here in Minesota. I always notice antennas first, this one had 2 VHF whips and a UHF whip. I thought hmmm, a ham ? Plate was a Michgan 3 numbers X three numbers and said "Tribal Court" . Anyone run across this ? Here in MN the tribes can issue their own plates. Prisoner transfer from MN to MI ? The antennas coaught my eye first, there was not an 800 antenna on the vehicle. From I94 they could get to the UP or the LP depending on a turn at Eau Claire, WI.

I didnt see a tribe listed. The plate was 900X205 if that helps. I started looking at the license db and my there are a few licenses out there for tribes. Lots of casino operations.

What color was the vehicle? Can you remember the color of the markings from there I can just about 100% pinpoint the Tribal agency.

As I recall it was a darker green color Suburban, the plates looked like regular michigan plates except for the format and the "Tribal Court" on the bottom of the plate. Looking at some of the tribes in the UP frequencies there are a couple of chances it could have been from up there for frequency use - going by someone who would need access to VHF and UHF but not 800. The Tribal Court plate is what came up as a trigger - why would the court need it's own plates - if it is LEO then why not Tribal Police ? It was unmarked otherwise.

Usually plates with an X in the middle of them are public entities, such as county, village, township, etc.. Those with a Y in them are from a church or Salvation Army type store....

Are you sure the Tribal Court was part of the plate and not part of a license plate holder?

Correct Y is non-profit org.

IF it's a Tribal Court it it could be either Michigan X plate or a Federal Govt Plate.

Default Sorry to stray off topic.

I have no idea what a Tribal Court is. I clicked on the link and am still a little confused here.

Was this vehicle a Tribal Police Car?
Is that what the "Tribal Court" is?
If Tribal Court and Tribal Police are two different things, them maybe someone can equate Tribal Court with something off the reservation that I would be familiar with.

Tribes have their own court system that deals with violations of Native Laws, Ordiances and beliefs.

Thats what got me with this plate, I have seen plenty of Tribal Police cars and they are very clearly marked and for the most part have a Tribal License plate. This one looked like a standard Michigan Plate, the format was a clue and the "Tribal Court" looked like the bottom part of the plate across the middle third or so - didnt look like a license plate holder.

Tribal Court ? Tribal Police, they should be 2 seperate entities, one enforcing and one interpreting. How does it relate to two way radio ? Well they had a bunch of antennas and I havent sen a judge show up at the scene of anything.

This thought just entered my head - Tribal Constable ? Typically constables are appointees doing the work of a court... ?

ANyone want to run a plate for me ?

So I guess I'm still a little confused about this, because I've never seen vehicles driving around my neck of the woods that say "23rd District Court" on the license plate, or on the door, or anything like that.

Michigan has a ton of plates no one has seen. Ive seen some off the wall and oddball ones the last few years that no one knows anything about.

Tribal courts technically fall under "federal" jurisdiction under the B.I.A. so who knows.
