Default OpenSky system

Is anyone in Michigan successfully utilizing the OpenSky Digital system for public safety voice communication?

Thanks,

KL

Supposedly Farmington Hills PD is using it... As part of a test for the Oakland County system that is still in the implementation phase...

Well, Oakland County is attempting to utilize OpenSky for their new communications system, but so far there have been numerous delays. According to a friend of mine who used the new system during a disaster drill in Farmington Hills, they pushed the system the max with talkgroup and channel loading, and the system failed miserably. The voices were garbled and you had to talk very slowly to be understood. Worse yet, the system crashed more than once, which made them switch to their VHF portables.

MA/COM said they would address these complaints and fix the problems. As to how long that will take is anyone's guess?

I'm glad I don't live in Oakland County, it seems like it will never get up and running. The county seems to be spending too much money on a system that has taken so long to develop.

Isn't Allegan County using it?

Oh. I thought there was some sort of un-monitorable system in Allegan County. Isn't OpenSky un-monitorable, or am I completely ass backwards here? Either way, I wouldn't be surprised.

Its Farmington (City of) that is using OpenSky on a daily basis, not Farmington Hills. The tower is at 11 Mile & Orchard Lake rd.

Although, since the Police Chief of Farmington Hills was a big proponent of the new system I would expect them to move from their UHF channels as soon as the new one is officially up.

I work for a FD in Oakland county and we are supposed to be online with it around December. Key words "supposed to be". It is an expensive system that unfortunately is not scannable by by anything on the market yet.

Better keep your cell phone handy so you can call for help when you need it!
