Default Genesee County on MPSCS

What is Genesee County's status (i.e. testing, dispatch, full service) on MPSCS. Are they still using their VHF system?

I can answer this, since I'm working for a company that is installing all of the new MPSCS equipment in Genesee County. We're roughly half-way through the county at this point, with all fire departments and police in the south half of the county using the 800mhz radios and new computers.

At the moment, the police are still using VHF, but all transmissions are simulcasted to 800mhz as well. I know that we were having some trouble with the fire patch, so they're still using the old VHF radios, while the 800mhz are already installed! We should have that situation cleared up soon, though.

If you have any other questions about the MPSCS in Genesee County, let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

T-Kat...

What about the restructuring of the freq's for the MPSCS?? How will that work when the FCC makes everyone get off the 862mhz and up band? Just curious if you heard anything about the freq's are now classified for Nextel??

When it does happen, it shouldn't be too difficult for us. Since all of the frequencies in use (with the exception of the Kalamazoo site) are in the 866-869 range, they will just move down exactly 15mhz. Since the MPSCS is running 9600bps control channels, the only thing we should have to reprogram for that system is the frequencies.
