I got it....well not so much.
Ok, I programmed in the control and alternate control channels for the MPSCS towers of Flatrock, Detroit, Northville, Mt.Clemens, Howell, Genesee, and Holly. Those are the towers that I will be around the most when I scan. I programmed in the talkgroups for the cities that are on the MPSCS system and so far nothing. Why is it not picking up on any talkgroups? I thought that I can listen to things in another county far away as long as I have that counties tower and talkgroups. Well I am lost again. Someone please help. Thank You.

Heck, I'm wondering the same thing....unless the codes on the database page are inaccurate. Good to see I'm not the only one without a clue...

To start with keep it simple - try one tower per bank - once you get that to work you can try the trick of mutiple towers seperated by a conventional channel in one bank.
I doubt that you could receive all those towers from one location without a special antenna system. - to realy keep it simple - try one tower at a time to make sure you can receive it.
From Fraser I can get Mt. Clemens, Romeo, Richmond and Northville but not Genesee or Holly.

Not all Talkgroup ID's are used on all Towers. So you may not hear everything you have programmed.
What I did with my Pro-96 was program one type of public safety agency in each bank. For example, Bank 0 has the control and alternate channels for the Howell and Northville Towers. Then I put just the PD Talkgroups that I wanted to listen to in that bank.
Then in Bank 1 I put the control and alternate channels for the Howell and Northville Towers again just like Bank 0, but in this Bank I only put in the Fire Talkgroup ID's that I wanted to listen to.
The advantage of this is that now I can separate Fire and Police while listening. If something good is happening with the PD I can just stop scanning the Fire Bank by pressing the appropriate number on the keypad and not have to worry about an interruption from the Fire Band.
I know that I can receive the Livingston County system on the Northville and Howell towers so those are the only Tower Control Channels I put it. I am sure I could get them on other tower sites also, but since they are not within listening distance, I choose to leave them out.
Just an Idea, there are many ways each person likes to program their scanner.

Just like your FM car stereo - if you plug in 95.7 and expect to get WKLQ out of Grand Rapids while you are sitting in Detroit, it just won't happen. You still can't break the laws of physics! If you are too far away to hear the signal, you are too far away...

Ok, thanks. It is kinda making sense now. I will try and program it differently. Why will putting a conventional channel inbetween control channels make a difference. Actually I don't think I can do that in the same bank. Each bank can only be either a trunked system or a conventional. I will have to try it.

dewaddict,
How did you program each bank though, with a conventional channel between or not?

No,
I didn't put a convention channel in between, in fact that is something new I learned from the members here. I just put in the Control and alternate channel frequencies. I have no problem "following" the talkgroups as I move through Oakland and Wayne Counties.
I am no expert on this stuff and I do what works best for me. Since I only listen to one or two county systems I can put one Talkgroup in each bank. But if you want to listen to more groups, you would run out of banks obviously. Or you would have to Lockout a bunch of the ID's and keep them in the same bank. I figure doing it the way I do saves me a few keystrokes.
