Default U.S. Coast Guard, Mounties team up to patrol waters

Papp and Dignard introduced the program at the Coast Guard Station in St. Clair Shores on Thursday. He said Windsor-based officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, commonly called Mounties, will be riding with Coast Guard personnel on 25-foot patrol boats along international waters through next week. If the program is successful, a decision will be made whether to make it a full-time commitment.

If this stops a terrorist or drug smuggler, I know it will be a worthwhile project. In fact, this should of been started right after 911 in 2001, I am really surprised that it took over fours years to get this program going!

Default Well that explains it....

Well that explains why I havent seen the O.P.P. boats near gull and seaway islands for the later half of this summer. And there was definately unrecognizable uniforms on the coast guard boats for Jobbienooner (Sept. 10). Of course the uniform thing couold be a result of military personell too.....like they did a couple years ago with the U.S. Army boats out there.

I doubt if they were looking for the jobbienooner's - Gull Island belongs the the Army Corp of Eng.

Last year the U. S. Boarder Patrol had a few attempts to smuggle people across from Canada on jet ski's - Now the U. S. Boarder Patrol works with the U. S. Coast Guard. This just adds the RCMP to the picture. Now they can get them on either side of the water.

Unhappy

While I was on the 41 footer downriver I saw a speed boat and a cabin cruiser exchange a small cooler. I was right on their sterns and couldn't believe they didn't notice the CG boat but the dude in the speed boat took off and headed over to the canadian side and up Turkey Island Cut ( i think??) but I called O.P.P. and the Lt. was going to deputize me to go into the marina and arrest the dude 'cause he was wanted. I called it into CG Group Detroit and they told me NO! Spineless officer on duty that afternoon...It only works if all the agencies can work together and act as ONE entity.
