Default Uniden 396 Reception Problems

Ok I have my uniden 396 scanner along with a diamond rh771 antenna, I have read all the forums about reception problems, I am in Detroit in the 7 mile & livernois area, I work for Detrot Fire and i need to keep up with what is going on. I am interested in only monitoring Detroit Fire & Police at this time, I have programmed the following control freqencies in the scanner 868.7250-867.0750-868.5375-868.9375. I am also receiving very choppy transmissions that last for 2 to 3 seconds then cut out. Even during ID search I hear very little activity. Am i doing something wrong or could anyone recommend a solution to get clear transmissions or is it just the new system ?? I have a 235 & 245xlt which were pretty simple to program but I am going to have to read the 396 manual a few times to get the hang of this one unless there is a dummies guide to the 396!!!

Thanks
MIKE DFD

It sounds like a lot of people are having the same problem with various radios.

You made need the latest firmware update from the Uniden website. If you have the original firmware version of 1.06.00 that version had problems decoding trunking ID's above 5000,and the Detroit tower has a majority of the Detroit ID's in the 8xxx range. To check your firmware version go to Menu>Setting>See Scanner Info>Firmware Version.
