I heard a rumor from a reliable source that some new radios will be passed out to officers in July. This may be the beginning of the end for us.

Those are cell phone antennas. Actually, cell towers close to each other are common. I see it quite a bit.

The Downriver Mutual Aid Auth. is requesting a 90-day extension to implement their new radio system. More information is available on the FCC Web site.

License extension.

The new Downriver Project 25 TRS is now online. The control channel is on 851.575 MHz. System ID is 926; WACN is 92498. Solid copy right now at 99%.

I don't hear anything on that frequency... Is it just me?

Unlike this morning, I can just barely hear the control channel. The site they are using for testing must be closer to me than it is to you. Therefore, it must be on the north end.

Default It's apparently true

I spoke with a friend of mine at the Riverview Police Department today. He confirmed the new system will be encrypted.

So much for listening to downriver

Default Downriver Mutual Aid Project 25 TRS Discussion

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Thank goodness there's still plenty to listen to on the state system. It will suck that I can no longer listen to my local PD when this happens

Yes, I'm very sorry to see our Downriver listening go. I have three scanners and really enjoy. I'm still amazed we don't have the technology to get by the encryption, it has to be possible?

I am sure someone has done it. You wont find any mass produced radios/programs to do it through because it is considered illegal both in the U.S. as well as many other countries around the world.

It's impossible to do in realtime. At best people have taken clips and possibly after days of processing have been able to pull out some audio clips. But nothing useful.

As far as we know, is everything going to be encrypted or only PD?

From one source, he said that all of the talkgroups will be encrypted. Another person, who is a police officer told me earlier today, that as far as he knew, only the police radio traffic will be encrypted; everything else will be in the clear. So we'll have to take a "wait and see" approach as this system is rolled out.

I heard some radio checks on TG: 204 yesterday in the clear. I noticed the simulcast distortion sounds worse as well. Sounds like more than one tower is now online.

One of the trunking frequencies of 853.3375 MHz, sounds like it has a feedback problem, with an open carrier right now.

Just an update for everyone, Everyone seems to be working on the old Downriver 800 system as of tonight.

It will undoubtedly be a while before anyone switches over.

I'd also believe that they'd run in the clear and the person who said otherwise was given a line of BS. I know I'd tell people that if I didn't like them listening in!

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the switch to the new system, but for the past week or so I've been hearing only static/garbage whenever someone is transmitting on 868.3375. Anyone else notice this, or is it just me? I've tried adjusting the squelch, attenuation, etc and no change. The users of the system seem to copy the traffic just fine. By the way, I'm using a BCD396T with latest firmware, and have downloaded the system info from the RR database.
