Picking up TG 13121 off the Summerville tower in Berrien county. It's all encrypted. Haven't gotten a rid yet. Any ideas as to who it might be.

If it's entirely encrypted and you don't have a RID, there is no way to even start guessing.

The newsletter also mentions that September 23 is the drop-dead (literally) date to have user radios rebanded. After that they are going to get the sites switched over.

Amazing that there are still hundreds of user radios that haven't been rebanded yet. Sprint is paying $50 per radio to get rebanded - HELLLLLOOOO....FREE MONEY, PEOPLE!!!!

Default MPSCS Sites/Talkgroups

Sorry if this doesn't belong in this thread. I'm new to the P25 system and I am a little confused. I understand Sites, and I understand talkgroups. But what I don't understand is how do you figure out which talkgroups use which sites?

I am near Metro Detroit, and would like to listen to DPD and DFD. Do I need to have the Detroit Simulcast Sites programmed into my scanner, and then select the talk groups I would like to listen to?

I'm assuming I have to be with the 10 mile covereage of one of those towers to be able to hear the traffic.

Also I travel up and down 275 everyday, what kind of traffic would I hear off the Northville Tower?

Thanks alot!

You must have Detroit's simulcast in to hear Detroit fire. Talkgroups are based on location, so if a PD unit from Mackinac County is in Northville, and you are on the Northville tower, you'll hear Mackinac PD. Otherwise you'd need to be in Mackinac to hear.

This is assuming that the Mackinac talkgroup is authorized on the Northville tower, as well. Most talkgroups are only authorized on towers in their local area.

Is there a way to know which talk groups use which sites or do I just have to try and match them up geographically?

All geographically. If you want all Monroe Co ops, you need to be in Monroe Co. If you want Otsego Co Sheriff, program the Otsego Co towers and be there.

I was hoping that somewhere would be published who is authorized to use what site. I could possibly be putting a talk group on a site that would never go together... Oh we'll, can't have everything...

Thanks guys

You don't need to program talkgroups to sites. You can program all the towers in your area in the same system.

So if I program all the sites that surround me, and then add in the talk groups I want, I should be able to pick up the talk group on whatever site they are using at that time?

The purpose of this thread is to help ID unknown talk groups. It would be better to ask basic questions in another thread. Mod cleanup on aisle 7

With rebanding just around the corner, this will be the place to post any frequency changes, especially when the tower starts incorporating channel pairs that are -15 MHz down.

Wayne County has filed with the FCC, to add another site to their simulcast cell. The tower location is at 71 Cicotte Street, in the city of Ecorse. More information is available on the FCC Web site:

Looks like they are going to share the tower site together?
