Default Question on which scanner for MPSCS

Hi folks,
I am going to break down and buy a new hand held scanner. My question is which of these two is best? This GRE

GRE PSR500 Handheld Digital APCO-25 Triple-Trunking Scanner : Handheld Scanners | RadioShack.com

or this Radio Shack model which is nearly identical:
RadioShack PRO-106 39,000-Channel Digital Handheld Scanner : Handheld Scanners | RadioShack.com

There were 2 Radio Shack models left in the Flint area and none in stock online and the GRE is available online. I know GRE makes this Radio Shack scanner and the Radio Shack model is just over a hundred bucks less but then again the GRE model comes with the programming cable you have to pay extra for from Radio Shack. Thanks for your input.

Those two are exactly the same scanners.

Looks like Rdale already answered the question, only differences is the placement of the speaker and that the GRE comes with the cord to program but for $100 less for the 106 for a $30 cord sounds like it would be the 106...

Ahh..... WRONG ! NO!
Gre psr-500 vs. Pro106

If you buy the PSR-500 then it will have the programming cable and power supply.

They are not included with the Pro-106.

Then they mention faster firmware updates, support. Speaker layout and was mentioned cost.

Honestly at this point, with all of the upcoming changes to Project-25 systems across the county, I'd only consider the GRE PSR-800 as it does already have beta firmware for Project-25 Phase II; which many of the newer radios across the state will be capable of and eventually this is the migration path for the state in the future. Looks like you're in Lapeer; take note, they all just bought Motorola APX6000 series radios, with a flashcode that already contains the Project-25 Phase II options. While the PSR-500/Pro-106 are fine scanners, they leave no room for future growth and migration...

You can get a PSR-800 for around $369 or possibly even less if you look around the web. I bought mine from HRO with free shipping, but Amazon is also a good choice as well...

Neither has had a firmware update in years. So in the end, they are still the same. He already knows about the price difference and accessories.

I picked up the 106 today. I also have Genesee and Lapeer County manually programmed. I watched a you tube video on programming and it is actually quite simple.
