Help for my Pro2096
Thank you all for trying. I have been trying to work this out for four hours this morning and I now feel that I will not have a digital scanner., and will have to settle for the conventional one. Maybe if it is possible ,someone will download a program and remotely get this done. Again I thank you for your effort. I will say that I found no way to add the txt and I did manage to get to the Manage attachments, but something I did there was obviously incorrect. I am sure that everything is in the scanner, but I just don't have the skills to retrieve it. I feel that it would be easier to teach a pig to fly an airplane than for me to grasp what is required here..

Don't Dispare
Okay Gerald,
Attached to this post you will find a p96 file that I put together for you. I have no idea what conventional frequencies you would want so I just grabbed some and put them in banks 4 & 5. Banks 1, 2 & 3 of the attached are MPSCS setups for the three counties you mentioned. The bank names are self-explantory. As I explained earlier, you cannot attach a file with a ".p96" file extension, so I added a ".txt" file extension to it, please remove that before trying to load it into Win96.

Don't give up Gerald!
One quick thing to add since you had trouble renaming the file.
You can do that with any file in windows explorer.
Open the folder where you have the file on your computer
(If you're not sure, open windows explorer and search the C: drive for p96 and that should show you where the file is)
If you right-click your mouse on the file name it will give you an option to rename the file.
Here is where you can either type .txt at the end in order to add that or you can delete the .txt if you are renaming Lou's file so you can use it with win96
Hang in there and we should be able to help you work through this

Help for my Pro-2096
Upon clicking on attachment I am given a choice to open with Notepad (default) or Save file.If Iclick either it reverts to a down load box. Double clicking on anything there goes to a page full of notepad symbols. What do I do now?

If you're referring to the file Lou attached above then you want to choose "save" and save it on your computer somewhere where it will be easy to find. Once you have saved (downloaded) the file you can then rename it by doing the right click and rename on the file you have saved on your computer.
After you have saved it and renamed it, you can then upload/import it into your scanner.
You can also rename the win96 (.p96) file that you earlier downloaded from your scanner by finding it on your hard drive and doing a similar rename but instead adding .txt to the end. That is the file that was requested for you to upload it here. If you can do that, and tell us exactly what you want to include, then we can modify the file.
You can then download the file (in the same way you can save Lou's) and upload that to your scanner using Win96.

Help for my Pro-2096
I just want to thank you and all others for your efforts.I would guess that most have give up on me and who could blame them.I just wanted to let you know that I believe that the scanner is programmed. It is just that I don't know how to use it. If it is to entail control channels, talk groups, maps etc. I will not get any further than I am today.anyway I clicked my way thru the banks and channels this morning and I have around 60+ 800.xxxx frequencies and several 100.xxx frequencies. I also see reference to Liv-Wash-Way which is Livingston, Washtenaw and Wayne County. These are the three that I requested. I gave a lot of thought this morning and maybe I can find someone local on Craigs List thru "help wanted" that is a scanner enthusiast.

Go to the top right of this page near where it says welcome next to your user name. There is a link there to the messaging system.

Hello bsrepellant, With some help I got your message. That was my first private message, so did not know how to find it. Your help with my scanner of course would be very much appreciated, My knowledge of the unit leaves very much to be desired.Ironically, I purchased this unit from a ham operator. I will contact you.

I spoke to Gerald and it appears the scanner is setup correctly to recieve Washtenaw and Livingston Counties with the 2 different towers. (Also Western Wayne but the Northville tower is very weak).
He is on the edge of both systems and unable to decode the contol channel. Some talkgroups come in but are very garbled. It appears he is closer to the Washtenaw tower but still not able to recieve very good. I am unable to help in trying to adjust any scanner settings (if any) because I am not very familiar with that scanner. He does have an outside antenna that may need to be looked at.
I feel his pain. It's not fun to have a nice scanner and not be able to recieve very much.
I hope he is not discouraged and gets to play around with the scanner.

Two things come to mind, both of which involve the ever present GRE front end problems.
Attenuation can be your friend when dealing with a 96 or 2096, tied to that the use of an exterior antenna may be counter productive if there is a high (or even a medium) RF environment present.

Washtenaw
Gerald check your private messages I sent you one. I'm in Livingston county and can help. The 2097 is not the best for Washtenaw since they are simulcast. Should be fine for the Howell tower unless you are close to a cell tower and that will hinder reception.
